I was just wondering how the camp went this year?
I've had the privilege of attending for 4 years (97-2000). I'm looking forward to making it out again, next year. Here's an article, from the PMAA newsletter, regarding a typical day at Thai Camp: 2000 Northwest Muay Thai Camp

This is just an excerpt from an e-mail I sent to a friend about the camp. I was invited to observe but I would have loved to get out there and go for it.
...we didn't get back from the camp until about 11:30 last night. Very cool though. It was held at camp W********n (I don't know if I should reveal that or not?) which is in the foot hills of the coast range about an hour Northwest of Beaverton (which is just west of Portland). They had the whole camp to themselves, 520 heavily wooded acres with nothing but hardcore Thai Boxers running around. Tents and a few trailers were spread around the woods and the main activity was around the lodge which had one side of the building open to the elements facing a very large field with a campfire area and benches off to one side. The center of the lodge had a cooking area and a large stone fireplace in front of that facing out to the field. there was a wing off of each side of the fireplace area (that was also open to the field) which were filled with rows of heavy bags and knee bags suspended (above a creaky plank floor) from large timbers supporting the roof. Twenty five to thirty heavy bags with a few knee bags here and there. The terrain away from the lodge is a little hilly which made the runs a little tougher. After about an 80 round work out yesterday, everyone relaxed last night to a feast of fresh Thai food rounded off with brownies and ice cream (they earned it). Thai Boxing bouts on video and everyone mingling and having a great time. Very, very cool... William |

I didn't complain. I was too busy hiding out in the woods......Douh!! I shouldn't have said that. All right, I'll get started. ;-) William |

Heh, I was just yankin' your chain. I did talk with Ajarn Chai and he was chuckling about some of the new guys that lacked discipline. I guess there were a bunch of guys that had to do over 400 push ups.
As it turns out I didn't rat on you. (But I might in the future...) Actually, there is a long history of practical jokes going on at the Oregon Camp. I had my tent moved onto a rock at the 1st camp. At the 2nd camp we made a video tape of me impersonating Ajarn Chai and saying outrageous stuff to his senior students. (I think Ajarn still grumbles about that tape.) Anyway, it's a tradition. Oh man! Now you tell. I've been doing push ups all night waiting for you to e-mail back and tell me to stop. ;-)
Yea, I heard one guy had to do about that many push ups because someone overheard him one night in his tent cussing in French. I've heard about some of the pranks that go on at the camp----sounds like fun. >>As it turns out I didn't rat on you. (But I might in the future...)>> Hmmm. Do I sense some blackmail in my future??? Ok, I better start prepping. More road work, push ups, puke drills, pad work, new disguise kit...... William |
