Default Greg Nelson's medical condition

Hi,

Many of you here know Greg Nelson. He's an excellent muay Thai instructor and a full instructor under Guro Inosanto.

He's facing the biggest battle of his life right now trying to fight off cancer. Recently his condition made a sharp turn for the worse. If you know Greg, please support him in any way you can.

Here's an email I just received about his updated condition:

"Hey Everyone. This is the latest news. I just talked to Vee, and she told me they were going to go ahead and treat him as if it's in his nervous system, so perhaps they can catch it if it hasn't spread there, but nothing conclusive yet. They're going to take spinal fluid samples every 3 days and monitor the results. I still don't have the number to North Memorial, but if you call the school (763-560-5696) they could get it for you.

If anybody can make it to Minnesota to visit him (I'm working on going out there in the next few weeks), I'm sure it would really lift his spirits. If not, please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Also, the students are doing a fundraiser for Greg and his family. It will coincide with the jiu-jitsu tournament that Greg and the Academy is putting on the first weeknd of Nov. All proceeds will go towards Greg, Vee, and their two children (Gunnar and Nina) to help pay for the hospital bills. If you can contribute in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. Please let anybody who you know that knows Greg about his current condition. I don't believe everyone knows, and I do not have contact info for everyone. So if you can think of anyone, please email them and let them know. Also, please let them know about the fundraiser too. We are trying to make it as big of event as possible to help Greg and his family out as much as we can. If you would like more information on the event/fundraiser and what you can do to help, please contact Damian Hirtz at damianh@nordquistsign.com. Thank you to everyone for all of their concern, and prayers. Please continue praying, and I will let you guys know if any new developments occur. Thanks again."

I wasn't gonna say anything about this in public, but since it's out now...

Greg is a really class act. Quiet. Polite. And tough as nails. He qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team in Judo in 1980, but Pres. Carter pulled out of the games over Afghanistan. Greg is a success at pretty much everything I've seen him turn his mind to. Muay Thai competitor, Kabri-Kabrong, jujutsu, fighter training--you name it.

I guess when he found out about the cancer he told the doctors: "Give me everything you got. I can take it." He's a fighter. I just pray that he comes out on top of this one. Stage IV liver cancer is a frightening opponent.

You're in our prayers, Greg.

I think I've said before, how much I admire Khuen Khru Nelson. Almost everything I know about the prumb I learned through what he taught Khuen Khru Bernales.

The few moments he spent with me, answering questions and just sharing his time at the 2001 Oregon Camp meant a great deal to me.

My heart and prayers go out to him and his family. I remember this year he came to camp and spoke to us on the last night there. He looked incredible. Better in sickness than most look when in perfect health. His spirit was inspirational as he told us that he looked at this challenge in front of him as just another fight. Just like any other that he had waged in the past. He was briming with courage and his mind seemed unfettered.

I would like to pledge a donation of $10.00 to Khru Nelson's family. I pledge to double this amount if someone else here will vow to match my $10.00.

Sincerely and humbly,
Brian Yamasaki
