Can kickboxing compete with other dojo martial arts or is it too basic?
Also is wrestling a good thing to add to kickboxing? And is a Capoeira ginga usefull for kick boxing?

If you want self defence with conventional arts (karate, tkd, jj, etc. etc. etc.) then you need to have been doing them for years and years.
If you want self defence now, do something like jkd, systema, krav maga...they basically get to the point more than other arts. |

I read that kickboxing will teach you self defense in 2 WEEKS while other arts take 6 MONTHS
AND IS WRESTLING A GOOD SUPPLEMENT TO ADD TO KICKBOXING??????????????????????????

depends who is teaching...thats the biggest issue with JKD
but it is definitely good for its simplicity, range of influences, and wide spanning concepts.. overall, JKD will teach you to handle yourself from afar, way close up, on the ground, and with any melee weapon...as long as theres and emphasis on filipino arts |

know this:
if you try to get good at fighting, you wont. attend class, practice, listen, and stay easy about it...dont pay attention to how long it takes or you'll suck. feel good about learning shit, but dont occupy your mind with a single thing...add it to the pile, and pull it out when you practice make martialness a part of your life or you wont develop any good attributes (not skills, but other important stuff) |

if you take jkd, you'll own the ground...like never before.
i wouldnt bother with kickboxing because its nothing special from a technical and practical point of view.. since you have ground experience i'd recommend jkd...itll make you groundfight like a pekinese fighting bitch, and itll teach you some wonderful standing up stuff. then take systema to make kingston happy [obligatory wisecrack] |

you have to try to do the drills in practice, and you do the drills to get good at fighting (among other reasons) so therefore just going to practice and participating is trying to be a good fighter. ...thinking about how long its taking to improve is what motivates you to try harder, seeing other people who have been around as long as you, and comparing yourself to them. See how you stand up to the rest. With some arts that have a very slow improvment curve to them you can take it for 2 years and still really suck at it. Its all relative, in the big picture you suck, but compared to classmates of the same level, you could be quite good. getting frustrated over those small setbacks is not helpfull though. i agree that people should look at the larger picture as well when doing drills.
