I jammed two of my middle toes on my left foot when I threw a front foot jab and it was blocked by an elbow or knee. It's fine to workout on except for left hooks and left uppercuts (anything where the front foot pivots in). Other than staying off the sparring (well, at least off of those moves while sparring) and those particular moves, is there anything you can do so the jammed toes don't affect your workout?? I've tried tape, but all of the shuffling and pivoting tears that off...my instrutor said there wasn't much more you could do about jammed toes, and I believe him, but I thought I'd throw it out to see if anyone had more feedback. Any other ideas?
Thanks. |

Your instructor is correct. There really isn't much that you CAN do about it. The only suggestion that I can make is to "buddy-tape" your jammed toes to at least help them remain immobilized so that you do not injure them further. Other than that, try to go through your workout focusing on the skills that do not bother those toes.

your better off laying off it for a while & just do something easy - maybe stretching. iv'e always been of the mind that if i got any problem i just tell the instructor straight away & always get the reply "don't use it for now or you'll just make it worse as your in pain because your body is telling you that it needs rest", iv'e always done this & i've always recovered faster than someone with the same injury trying to train around it.
take a break - we all need them sometimes |

Yeah, what you two said is pretty much what I figured. It is giving me a chance to toy with some things, like shorter, quick hooks against body shots and stuff where you turn the hip but don't get the full pivot. As I said, I told my instructor about it and he's giving me slightly different drills when the rest of the guys are doing hooks or uppercuts. That and keep all my teeps coming from the rear leg, and I'm sure I'll be fine in a week or so.
As for taking a break, I have a wedding coming up in November...I'm sure my fiancee will build plenty of planning days in to give me days off
