There is a guy at training who has a long jab , just a touch longer than mine he also never attacks first , which pisses me off to no end when im trying to spar him .
I cant break the distance to use my hooks and uppers cause his jab nails me , My only way of breaking the distance is high head kicks which i cant use in sparring cause i would probably break his neck ( i have a good roundhouse ). His Jab is strong very strong but seems to be his only skill....

If you've got a good high Thai kick then try launching the kick (downward) for his neck as he initiates his jab. If you're in similar leads then quick switch & kick. If you're in opposite leads then just kick straight away. It is difficult to set this attack up without first establishing respect for your low kick, so hammer his leg several times before trying this.
The motion of your kick will cause your body to slip. In addition, if you have your back hand placement where it should be, you'll also get in a parry for free. If he drops his guard at all when he jabs you should connect. Be careful not to kick him full power though as you can break his neck. Last edited by terry; 06-08-2003 at 10:32 AM. |

I find when i do high kicks , i have to do them full power , otherwise i leave myself way to open.
What do think about fighting in switch , my back hand in switch needsa bit of work but my back left in switch is ok.
