Default Shin Block

I was fooling around with a friend the other day and I figured I'd do a shin block. I however don't thaibox and so the nerves in my shins are like 100%. IT HURT SO F*CKING BAD!!!! LoL . I fell like right to the ground. I guess I should have put my shin in the way of their instep or ball of their foot. Woops. I have a nice little bump on my shin now and it kills when I touch it. What should I do?

You should show it off, of course.

"Hey, everybody, look at this cool lump on my shin. I was just kicking some banana trees - to toughen up you know, and well...'

Do what most do, wear shin guards when sparring.

Watch it retired. Or I'll post them pics of you flexing your non existent muscles.

You have been warned.

you will probably be gun shy the next time you think of doing that one so i'll give you a couple of tips to keep it from hurting so bad the next time.

if you roll up your toes when you go for the block this will constrict the muscle next to the shin. like i said it will keep it from hurting as bad as if you didn't do this but it will still hurt if you block the opposite leg coming at you.
depending how you did it you might change the angle that you blocked. if it was straight toward the kick it will result in a car wreck (as i am sure you are aware), if you aim for his knee or higher the pain will be felt by him. this has everything to do with speed and timing though.
hope it helps and just remember the pain doesn't last forever but the memory probably will.

No mate im not saying anthing about you as i dont know you, im just havin a laff at bri-thai as he just a bit "larger" than me.

And im quite impressed that your quoting the legendary "Thai-Bri" with his continuous witty remarks.

Oh bri i cant say anything about my looks as im sporting a lovelly black eye at the moment from jab sparring with the instructor on thursday & i still got a headache now on sunday & had to make excuses to the misses as im supposed to be "retired" from all this contact stuff.

anyway "the bigger they are the harder they hit"

c u around

"if you aim for his knee or higher the pain will be felt by him".

Strange? because if your shin blocking you want to be trying to use your thicker part of the shin (closer to your knee) against his thinner part of the shin (closer to his foot), this way you have a smaller chance of damage & his chances greater.

And if your blocking a waist / knee high kick then when your in the block positon just before the kick hits you give a slight downward movement/strike with your upper shin against his thin part.
(This is like your forward knee/hip movement only it goes down towards the kick).

that looks like a nasty injury, how exactly did you do that and what art do you practice? I train and fight Muay Thai I have naturally strong bones but have been conditioning my shins for the last 3 years, its hard going as if you doint keep at they soon go back to normal.

So explain what thefuck happened, how did you break yer leg?
