Thread: Street fight

My 'street' resume:

1) Walked up behind an angry drunk guy in a bar, applied naked choke, helped the bartender carry him out.

2) Got tackled by a guy at a party while trying to walk away after getting 'called out': He fell into my guard, I applied guillotine until his friends pulled him off.

3) I got blindsided by a BIG drunk guy outside a dorm, he hit a couple times, I went down before I even knew what was happening. When I got back up, he had left.

4) a couple low level stare down-type things in bars and such that I was able to get away from.

So in other words, I haven't got much 'street' stuff to talk about, which is why I also would like to hear some actual experiences people here have had.

And of course there are four million variables and no two instances are the same and all that - but what has actually happened to you?

it seems that Britishers and Irelanders get into more street fights than Americans.

I have been in a few fights, some were silly and some were pretty serious. May I just point out that in mainland UK, as I live in N.Ireland, Belfast, there are more "sporadic" attacks on the street than here in sunny old Belfast. I belive its down to the high density of "organised crime" who seem to control the violence on the streets of Belfast, I am not praising these organised groups of criminals.

Anyway, I live in a council estate in belfast and in my younger days, teen years we would regularly fight with neighbouring council estates, this was all fun until one night me and a friend walked a girl to the edge of our estate limits (**** it sounds so ridiculous now when i think of it) we even walked her more than far enough.... we bumped into 2 older fellas, they seemed like normal guys, but they were older than us, my friend was a big chap, tall and well built and also older than me. We stood talking to these guys as they started asking questions, the girl was gone, I knew something wasnt right and while we were talking one of the guys pulled a stanely blade, not the retractable blade type but the fixed kind (I remember it very well) anyway he said something sarcastic and took a swipe at my friend, cos he was the biggest, well my mate legged it!!! he was gone like a fucking racing dog chasing a hare!!! so I was standing there and he swipes at me, I jumped back then his mate grabs me so all i think of is "shit shit shit" I tunred to run away got a few metres and fell, I asume he kicked my feet away, I dont know but I fell on the ground, they procedded to beat the living crap out of me and the whole time I lay there I just pulled my jacket over my head and hoped I didnt get cut, I was crawling away from the beating I was getting on the middle of the road until somehow I managed to actually get up then bolted like a champion, men my jacket was cut up, seriously it was a good damn jacket, heavy, well made winter coat which probably saved me from getting loads of nasty cuts thats why now when I see knives I prefer to run....


I was in hostpital with my left hand by punching my fist through a window to grab the head of someone I knew and still is very close to me, he pissed me off, my hand slipped of his hair and slid across the glass!!! I was told I needed micro surgery, really, i didnt do it as I was drunk at the time and left the hostpital wihtout even stitches!!! My hand was a mess and for a year or so I couldnt use my middle finger but now, well its normal, I think cos I was so determined to make the fucker work it worked! my middle finger would always get caught up in my pockets and shit... annoying thing! lol.

I got knocked out once and woke up seeing two of my mates holding 2 guys against a wall by their throats!!! haha, what a weird experience.

Anyway I want to tell you a short story about a friend of mine, a fella who served in the british army, para regiment, then married a girl from here and then moved to live here, he came from Manchester is about 5 1/2 foot and built like a brick. He was in an area called "Glengormely" which is divided by an imaginary line, one side Catholics and one side Protestant, my friend being a Catholic English man who served in The british army had friends who were Protestant (I know, its all a complete farce) This guy, really, is one of the most hardest fuckers I have ever met! He was standing at the divide, on their side was a kentucky so he decided, as he was drunk, to have a kentucky which meant going into the divide, well all was good until he spoke, english accent in a heavy IRA supporter area on a weekend night is not really good (Now its all cool this was years ago) he asked for something, the local guys heard him and said something smart back to him, so my friend said something smart also, then they said something again so then he got laid into them all!!! at once!!! lol, I wasnt there but was told the whole story, he got stabbed 6 times, twice in the head and still fought them all, he got such a kicking he lost pints of his blood and his little finger cut off at the tip, he grabbed the guys hand with the blade and the blade snapped back and cut off the tip of his little finger, he really could have been killed but apparently he fought like he was going to die! even with 6 stab wounds and a cut off finger, if it wasnt for the police he would have been dead. That guy is one hard little shit.

by the way he was an army boxing champion.

a lot of what you said is true most people who can fight don't get into fights, and the people that do fight usually can't. it is also true that a lucky punch can end a day badly. if you train for anything but a street fight what are you really training for?
a street fight is unpredictable, as you said dull to watch, unless you are the one in the fight, and have the highest penalty for screwing up. only one punch perfectly placed whether by accident or not and you go to sleep, most times people get kicked or pounded on when this happens. i saw the aftermath of this in 1995 when a guy was lying on his back with his forehead smashed in. he died five minutes later.
sure anyone can come back with "train for the ring" and i am not denying this pont of training or 'this is better than that' crap, but this is different because two conditioned athletes, in a sporting event even though it is dangerous, there is always the element of quitting present (whether you use it or not), you have a third person in the ring with the ability to halt the contest if someone gets hurt to badly, there are breaks every so often for these guys to collect themselves, the end result will most likely not be with someone dying in the contest. well hopefully anyway.
if you training tactics include realistic fight situations (reading body language of different attacks, punches, kicks, etc) if you are in a situation on the street it will be easier to defend against these than not practicing against something from the street.
because of those people that will lift objects to use against others is another aspect of the unpredictability of street situations that may come up with someone at sometime.

leaving or finding another way to do things is the best way to fight a street fight, i agree but what if you can't? wouldn't it be better to be ready for as many of those situations as you can before it is neccessary until crapping in your pants when you are knocked out from something you could have prevented with the right training?
what about guys that can't turn away because of their jobs? street fighters are around them all the time if they don't train for these types of situations they will definately get hurt.
