what WOULD the cops do if

One of my friends (who surprisingly has no interest in training) and I always call each other before we go out with people we barely know or go on blind dates or for me if I'm about to interview a new training partner or train somewhere new, etc. She goes all out and text messages license plate numbers of people she's with if she gets in their car. I never do that, but I always e-mail her the person's name, address if I have it, phone number, e-mail address, where we're meeting, and what time I expect to be home by. I also tell her when she should call the cops if she doesn't hear from me by.

Well, I was just thinking about this today. What would the cops do if they got that kind of phone call? Don't you need to be missing for three days or something before they even start investigating?

    Just thought someone might know.

I think it is 48 hours...
but, that's smart...I mean, I'd just call a bunch of rough buddies if I didn't hear back from your girl...police aren't very accountable anyway, and there's too much due process in law...I'd take a drug dealer friend's help any day just as much as a cop's.

and you'd get instantaneous help from your friends, and his friends, why ask a cop to ask around on the streets when you can do it yourself? Let 'em wait 48 hours if you and your friends "network"couldnt find them then any help is welcome, but by the time they wanna look IF your friend was in trouble the cops will be 2 days late to the search...

Hell yea man... my boys would find anybody around. We'd ask the right questions and put up a real investigation instead of sitting around the donut shop complaining about how hard it is to get shit done.

I always laughed when people have the cops "protect" them. Like snitches and shit like that. You REALLY think a group of determined, single minded people are going to be detered by those who have no real investment, other than it's just their job.

    thanks.

the first problem was when she mentioned how she likes to go out with people she barely knows. that right there is a bad idea.

and blind dates? cmon. unless your actually on the show " Blind Date ", you should know better than to go on blind dates.

all bad ideas. dont hang out with people if you feel the need to give their adress and private info to another person in case you disappear after hanging out with them.

LOL, but the truth is that people ARE gonna hang out with people they barely know so may as well be safe about it. I'd rather have a friend call me and let me know where she's going than be too embarrassed to tell me cos I'd just give her shit, etc...

Ew...this one was a real dog...REAL dog...sick, sick, sick...I polished off a bunch of Zombies (fruity ass rum/everclear drink) with some valium and did my best...but the repressed memory raized it's ugly, ugly head...thanks.

And if your friends do, make sure to get them to give you the contact info of the people they're hanging out with, just in case.

Or you could just tell them they're stupid and make them feel like crap about it and wonder where they disappeared to.

I started doing this after a good friend of mine went to Central America with this guy she barely knew. I knew I couldn't talk her out of it but the least I could do is help her be safer about it.

Most of the women I know are pretty naive about this...even girls I know that have been RAPED or ASSAULTED are fucking naive about trusting strangers, or getting drunk at parties alone, or hanging out with shady assholes they don't know too well.

How do you get through to somebody like that? Hello...don't be stupid...bring one of your girlfriends along, or somebody you know for DAMN sure you can trust if shit gets thick!

    typical conversation;

-Don't walk alone without mace or a knife!
-but I don't think I could do that to somebody...(followed by a retarded giggle)...
-But you've been assaulted before right...
    -oh, that was different.
    -no it wasn't...be fucking CAREFUL
-no, it was, I'll be okay, I'm a big girl, You're paranoid.
    -and you're retarded.

FUCKING STUPID FUCKING FUCKS!!!! GRRRRRR....I love 'em...but stupidity gives me a FUCKING migraine.

I think the most important thing is to keep the channels of communication open, which entails telling them you care about them instead of treating them like they're stupid (even if they act stupid). Also to talk to them about levels of risk...

For me I try to lead by example, so because I want my friends to call me and give me info if they're doing something that isn't by the books, I will do the same for them (even though I feel like my risk assessment skills are better and wouldn't get in the car with someone I'd need to text license plate #s for).

Also for me I think my friend going on a blind date without bringing a friend is really dumb, but SHE thinks me going to check out different dojos by myself is dumb because there's like 50 guys there and they're all armed. Since I want her to listen to me when I think she's doing something dumb (and tell me where she's going, etc.), I'll do the same for her.

The reaction to this is really really funny because it's so similar to the born-again Xtn argument about not telling kids about birth control b/c it'll encourage sex, and the truth is they're probably not gonna be abstinent anyway. Whereas it's much more useful to actually give people helpful information even if they're doing something that you think is stupid (or they're gonna go to hell, or whatever) if you know they're gonna do it anyway.

So that's why I wanted to research this... I'm gonna ask some people i know who currently have jobs working with runaways and see if they have any pertinent info that would be helpful.

Maybe I should discreetly sew razor blades into their shoes.
That way if they have to kick at a guys balls (always a first line of defense, even among the untrained)...it'll REALLY work!
