I enjoyed fighting (not able to so much these days I admit, just training). Of course I don't know anyone who enjoys being mugged or assaulted, but if you don't think of boxers as fighters, then that is where we don't agree. Heck, even the "street fighters" I knew enjoyed scrapping. Loved it. As far as RBSD vs. sport MA goes, I'll try to keep it in context. Same with the repeating. I will however continue to make underhanded insults to butt-hurt nuthuggers, as is my way. Peace out.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think this guy was banned from Talkshito yesterday for posting this. I think self defense for women is bs Women just don't have the physical strength and speed to defeat a raging man. A lot of these courses focus on twisting out of grips and eye jabbing/nut kicking/wrist locking your way out of throat grabs. Cracks me up that the most common aggression towards women isn't at all addressed; the bitch slap As for the eye jabs and nut kicks, well they seem pretty effective for making a man go from wanting to rape you to wanting to kill you My mom did one of these courses and was all positive she could get out of the dreaded wrist grab. I said wanna try it to be sure? She said yes. I grabbed her and squeezed only 50 percent and she dropped to her knees in pain from the crushing grip Strong fail in women's self defense, I suppose they only practice with other females with no grip/commitment whatsoever Sad sad He popped up here shortly after this guy was banned.

Should women be aware of their surroundings? Of course. And I believe dirty ttricks are helpful when a woman has to fight a man (who is almost always going to be physically stronger). so is it what I said or how I said it? It seems some of you went immediately to personal attacks instead of replying to what I posted, and I've kept it to a good 85% civil on my part IMO. For the record, learning to bob and weave proved very effective during my own blessed mothers occasional drunken attacks, and I never once hurt her. (I did put her in a nursing home though)

There is a place for defending yourself, don't get me wrong, but actively getting into street fights rather than attempting to avoid them, and willingly wanting to beat on your fellow man is not healthy. Defending yourself and surviving a street fight should still not be considered enjoyable. It is still traumatic and you are still a victim. So what if some guy looked at your girlfriend, bumped into you in the pub, called you a "faggot" or whatever. Does it really matter? Is it worth getting stabbed over? Is it worth a criminal conviction? Is it worth the repercussions when the guys mate you just beat up on comes back with 5 friends and attacks you a month later? Don't tell me this doesn't happen...it does happen and regularly happens. Your ego, which is over developed in a lot of MA clubs of all types, will get you into so much trouble if you don't keep it in check. Ask yourself, out of all the fights you've seen at school, in pubs and nightclubs, on the street or where ever....how many of them started because of ego? I would hazard a guess that 95% of them were. Certainly all the ones I've seen were all because someone couldn't just "let it go". Boxers/MMA practitioners/Judoka/wrestlers/Muay Thai exponents etc are considered fighters but is it necessary or important to have such a label? Personally I like how Sambo fighters are considered "players", and that includes Combat Sambo. They are playing a sport......like boxers. Perhaps that's where we share a difference....in terminology. We aren't poles apart in opinion....I just don't share your glorification of violence because I've seen what it does and what it does to people's lives. Train hard, have fun and make friends.

I don't advocate street fighting. I've seen where it leads, and I feel someone who actively trains usually finds a positive release for all that adrenaline. Nor do I glorify violence (except in the ring or cage, that I endorse). I find that those who train for the street usually out of fear are more inclined to need to prove themselves than someone who already has in the ring. Train hard, HAVE FUN, and make friends. Truer words couldn't have come out of a fortune cookie.

Ah, you've been in many a 'gritty' situation yourself? Do tell. That is unless it's just...just...just too painful to recall... ![]() I'll await your next evasion.

![]() | I don't know that anyone here does, but I do know that many schools are based on this concept of "reality". Though an entire forum devoted to "urban street combatives" is certainly a warning flag. Of course, it could all be devoted to debunking the myth that Tai Chi is also usefull for self defense, stuff along those lines. Or maybe for law enforcement, though a badge doesn't automatically make you an expert in this field. I would think if anyone needs to lighten up a bit it would be a guy who deals with domestic disturbance calls all day. OK, here's a question, why an entire forum devoted to this? I'd sincerely like to know, so far what I've seen seems to be more fantasy-based than reality based. Feel free to sprinkle in a few personal jabs. (I'll even help: I didn't graduate high school) |
