Wink Please, Stop Training For Self Defense!

Seriously, train for fun and health. Or for sport, maybe cultural reasons.

The last thing I need to hear when I step into a gym is how some crackhead is going to stab me if I don't practice my tiger claw form. I don't need the stress, I go to the gym to unwind. Not to be pretend-raped by a walking punching bag. Training should be fun!

PUNCH AND RUN! There, all the self defense you'll ever need to know, for free. No contract, no testing fees. If you feel sweaty and cramped up because you're going through some type of validation withdrawals, I'll sell you a belt, pick a color; I got some in my closet collecting dust.

But what if you get attacked often? Well, then quit being an asshole. 'Scuse the sailor talk, but it just might save your life. Or move out Da Hood. Of course if you take an effective martial art like boxing (or maybe boxing ), you'd be killing two birds with one stone.

Sorry if this has been covered (I hope it has), but when I see an entire forum based on "urban combatives" I can't help but picture the scene in the Indiana Jones movie where the Arab guy twirls the sword around for five minutes and Harrison Ford simply shoots the guy. Only the Arab guy is a 5th degree Kenpo master and Jonesy is a 12 year old gangbanger named Spider.

Take it from an Arab guy, enjoy your training. Peace out.

Yeah, just shove your kid into the crackhead and run.

Oh wait, typically the people who spout "run" all the time couldn't get laid in a 2 dollar whore house with a 100 dollar bill, hence the idea of wives, pregnant women or children being in their presence never crosses their mind.

Sometimes running isn't an option, for those days I guess you also recommend curling into a ball and awaiting your turn to be attacked.

Go back to the sports forum and keep posting how much smarter you BJJ guys are than the rest of the MMA crowd.

Pffft another 12 year old martial art expert gives us his opinion....guess we've got 3 of them informing us now.

That reminds me, do you object to women learning self defense as well?

I've never been to a whore house, and I've never done BJJ. I'm not an expert, and I'm 40 years old.

I don't object to women learning EFFECTIVE MARTIAL ARTS, but as self defense is marketed and taught using fear tactics, I don't see the point.
BTW, I believe Escrima is one of the most effective means of self defense since most of you guys seem to always have at least two knives on you at all times. Also one of the most fun sparring-wise.

Literacy seems to be a difficult issue for people on this forum these days.

Yes, I completely disagree with your opinion.

My personal opinion is that you have either lived a very sheltered life, or you are just one of the myriad of trolls roaming the net.

You also come across as loud invasive and obnoxious.

You seem to be someone who feels that since he's been around for 40 years he automatically gets the wisdom that comes with it.

Unfortunately you only got the years and not the intelligence that would come with it, had you paid attention.

Far from a sheltered life, not that it matters, just not digging the whole fear mongering approach so many schools go for. And if I came across as obnoxious, sorry, just my opinion. You both could have given your opinions before the personal attacks, but I don't mind. I know my reading comprehension sucks, but at least I made a point.

Tell me, do you train for self defense? How's that working out for you?

Another great example of Enema's critical reading skills.

Perhaps you should look to see what he posted in the BJJ forums.

would you like to contribute as well? because name-calling won't get us anywhere (though it would be fun).

Name-calling is about all he has since he gets owned in every intellectual discussion he's tried to engage in.

Oh, I took the tone of that thread as tongue-in-cheek and ran with it. Maybe it was my reading comprehension acting up again. Focus here, boys.

Maybe some one here could explain how their years of self defense training prepared them for the real world? In a way buying a can of pepper spray could never do?
