![]() | All I know is that: - I'm not training to enter MMA or anything, I'm just going to do this for your average thug or some "douchebag" that wants to fight. - I do not want to know if my form is wrong; I just want to know how to fight. - I want to be able to do this in everyday clothing, no over the top jump kicks, please (excuse my ignorance). - Learning how to take on multiple attackers would be nice too. I've taken some martial arts before, some jeet kune do and some wing chun. I took the jkd in a dojo, and I was taught to do wing chun as more of an art. what do you guys suggest? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Here are the arts I think work best... standing: Muay Thai Boxing throws and takedowns: Judo Sambo Wrestling (Greco or Collegiate) ground: Combat Submission Wrestling Brazillian Jiu Jitsu Shooto weapons and general take no prisoners tactics: FMA (Inosanto blend, DBMA, Pekiti Tirsia/ Dekiti Tirsia Serrades Escrima, Sayoc Kali, and perhaps a smattering of silat in there, Maphilandro Silat would be my pick) Basically, what I'm telling you to do is...find an instructor under Guro Inosanto. If I had money, I know exactly where I'd train. Unfortunately this college stuff takes priority. (I really should just stop being lazy and get a decent job...but I love to sleep and kick it with my friends too much.) ...and dancing...helps with footwork, rhythm, timing, distancing, and general conditioning and flexibilty depending on what you're taking. A survey of dance including salsa, tango, modern, and ballroom is certainly something that I think everyone would benefit from. Bruce Lee was a dancing instructor for a long time, and I also think a bunch of the old Filipino masters were too. I aspire to be a man of grace and skill...in all areas of life. That's a big time goal. Last edited by Garland; 11-06-2009 at 02:50 AM. |

![]() | How much time do you want to put in? To get through most situations, a course with Model Mugging or the stuff by folks like Bill Kipp should do the job. Take a week and learn their stuff, you will have to travel to them. If you want to do this on a weekly basis, then things are more complicated. For one thing, the amount of styles available to you are limited. Even large cities don't have every art out there. So you might want to start finding out what styles and instructors are in your area and asking about them.

![]() | Actually, a place like model mugging or the old RCMAT will pretty much take care of the 90 percent you are likely to face. That might be what the OP is looking for based on his post. He won't go very far, but seems to want enough to deal with things better than a normal victim.
