If you've done thai boxing and mma you will probably know most of the strikes in Krav Maga.

The hammer fist or palm heel strike might be new, but there nothing to worry about as you do the hammer fist from the time your born, and the palm heel strike is just like a punch sorta but with your palm.

The Krav Maga "self defences" (headlock defenses, choke defenes from the front side rear, haymaker defenses) are all very good and practical, at least the ones I was taught, they explained why everything you did was done. There was never a "just because" reason for you to do something.

The self defences is what your really gonna learn from Krav, from thai boxing and mma you will know most of the fighting stuff, strikes etc...

There are a few differences in the way you stand, but nothing major, its simple, and uses your animal instincts as a base (because thats most likely what your going to do).'

As for the knife and gun defenses, I'd use em if I had no other choice, but running away, or arming yourself, or both of those is always first choice.

They should tell you that about running away, and if they dont, leave.

"Tae Bo with an attitude"... According to a well known high ranking Judo/ Jujutsu guy. I have limited experience with the system and I will say that it looks good on paper but the weapon disarming tactics and techniques are weak and dangerous enough to get yourself killed if you try them against anyone with an ounce of retention skill or INTENT. You can get an instructor certificate in the system with minimal training so it just a money machine in my opinion...

I've taken a couple peaks into some Krav classes. It seemed kind wak. I think it would be cool to kind a krav or reality combat school where you suited up and then just went at it with like one guy with a chair and the other with a belt. That'd be some cool, as well as amusing, classes.

I've heard the krav system has some good knife fighting stuff in it. But ask boarspear he's the resident knife fighting expert. lol

HAHAHA....true true. Ever see that backyard wrestling vid where one dude takes a weedwacker to his opponets ribs. It's freakin nasty lol. Don't want to change the thread topic too much, but whats your opinion on the belt as a street fighting weapon?
Do they advocate the use of the Belt as a weapon in KM?

They advocate anything thats useful as a weapon in Krav Maga.

The one true strength of Krav Maga in my opinion is its way of dealing with the self defense mindset. They try to instill agressiveness, and the ability to seriously hurt someone into your brain.

Most martial arts dont have you train like this, in karate you learn how to kick and punch, do you think the average karate student is prepared to kick their attacker in the face until they stop moving?

(thats what Krav Maga would advocate if it was a real threat on your life, that or running the **** away)

Even in "modern" mma's, boxing, mma, bjj, etc... you are taught to beat your opponent into submission. A boxer may be willing or have the mindset to punch the guys face in while hes standing against him.

The do whatever it takes to survive mindset they drill into you from day one (at least they should) is what sets it apart in my opinion.

I'd also like to disagree with Tanto about the knife defenses, although the ones I have seen would be useless/WORSE for you if you were fighting a person trained with the blade, they are designed for the everyday douche bag, who is gonna give you the giant vertical hammer fist attack, the haymaker attack with the knife, or try to ram it up your gut.

Keep your left side front so you don't take it in the liver....

Krav Maga advocates a stance that would keep my left side in front anyway, as it would for all other right handed peoples, as far as I got in it anyway.
