a grappler getting into a fight on the street isnt going to try to go to the ground, he is most likely going to try to get you there. im sure some people who train in grappling are dumb as shit and might actually try to fight the way uke imagines grappling is to be used, fishing for tito ortiz style takedowns and whatnot, but im sure most people at the higher level would know better. the gracies are wack, im not talkin about them. and even then, its not the style. i mean, i seriously dont think anyone who is a dedicated grappler would try to pull guard on the street on concrete, but even if someone did its cause they were a dumb ****. and even still, i guarantee you that there are some experienced grapplers that probobly would be able to triangle or armlock someone immediately by pulling guard on the ground, and even on "broken glass", so you cant underestimate them either or not be prepared. |

btw, alot of confrontations in real life are over stupid shit, not life death so you cant just shank your aggressor sometimes. mabye some dude is ultra drunk and puts his hands on your girl but is way too drunk to really know what he is doing and is not much of a threat. you cant just stab him through the armpit or kick through his kneecap and crush his throat. that aint crackin. experience in grappling will allow you to subdue and restrain people without hurting them if you wish yet at the same time being lethal( spine locks/ neck breaks/ strangles). look what a wack ass society we live in, people need to be physically restrained every single day. you never know when you will need to do it.
and if you dont believe it can be used for sd on the street, there is a purple belt from here who is serving time right now because he crushed some nazi punk dudes throat with collar choke instantly on the street. the guy was wearing a nice leather jacket. he died from the choke and was revived at the hospital. he didnt roll around on no glass. |

But one of the most important points that conveniently never made its way to your reply was: Quote:
And then you have the balls to pretend that the way I described "grappling defense" was anything but accurate. Remember, KOTF asked about grappling defense, not offense. You do know the difference, right? But since you think that I am somehow in error, why don't you describe to us all what grappling defense is, emptyness? Go ahead. Write something about ground grappling defense that disputes what I wrote. Post it here so that everyone can see your grasp on the technical aspects of what you claim that you practice but I don't. Strike a blow for grapplers everywhere, emptyness. BTW, no one said grappling is useless.

How is it whenever the fight is on the ground, your opponent's friends will kick your head inside out and stomp your ears into a 7-inch pizza base. If you keep the fight standing however, not only will these same friends not join in, they'll buy you drinks and they'll even let you sleep with their girlfriends. Whenever the fight is on the ground, there is a hidden weapon. If its standing, the guy won't use a weapon. Or he'll act like a complete idiot flashing the knife around lik your sterotypical bad guy from a bad B-movie. To anyone who thinks Martial Arts is an Effective form of Self Defense. You need to, in the words of my Chinese Langauge teacher, "WAKE UP OUR IDEA!". Self-Defense, Street-defense what ever you call it, is first and foremost about, Awareness and Avoidance. Its not about who's the better fighter or has the bigger weapon. Its about who is smart enough to walk away from the fight. And don't give me stupid "What-Ifs?" What if i'm cornered? What if i'm with children or elderly who can't run? What if i'm surrounded by 27 ninjas with Uzis and Katanas? The point of awareness and avoidance is how not to get into that situation in the first place. (Please <wow i said a nice word!> before you start flaming me for knowing nothing about "th3 str33t". Know this, i never said you don't need to know how to fight. What i'm saying is Self-defense/Street Defense is at the very least 70-80% awareness and avoidance above all else.) |
