Default It doesn't look like he's going to make it...

Apparently this guy got beaten pretty much to death. This is the same venue that I have tickets to see 311 at later this summer. @ Mike, I remember you telling me that deaths in boxing are frequently from "brain bounce". From the article it sounds to me like that was what happened here.

I've been thinking about this a bit, this hits home for me because I have a couple friends that I recently decided to distance myself from because they're too willing to start trouble. This is a very mundane situation- probably just some kid that had too much to drink, got rowdy and threw a punch. As far as I can see there were no weapons or overwhelming odds or anything too dramatic; I doubt there was even the intent to do any serious harm. It was just a very real but ordinary little fist fight over something silly that shouldn't have ended in anything worse than a black eye but that instead turned deadly. If they're from out of town or don't see it in the news the people responsible might not even know that the guy was badly hurt. We've said over and over in here that self-defense is about avoidance and deescalation more than anything else, and this is a great example of why. To me it's something to think about because every time I flip some idiot off in traffic (road rage in Atlanta- go figure ) it could turn into something like this and, potentially, I could wind up as either the guy in hospital, or the guy who is wanted for putting him there. In all likelyhood both lives are now ruined

/end rambling
