Default school shootings and specific training

Does anybody on this board work in the schools? What kind of specific training do you have to deal with anything that might arise? Any tips on close quarter restraint, hostage negotiation or basic security in the schools that teachers or aspiring teachers can look into?

another school shooting happened today. thats 3 in one week now. wtf is going on people????

schools just arent safe anymore. we need to beef up security at all our schools now. nutcases and disgruntled employees know they can strike at our children as they please. children are sitting ducks at schools. do you think some middle aged out of shape teacher is going to stop a gunman on a rampage? or will your 10 year old do it?? theres no security at schools, were people drop off their children every single day. i think schools need barricades, barbed wire, and armed security guards at all times. schools are such easy targets, thats probobly why this keeps happening. schools make so much money why cant they hire a couple of armed guards to man the entrances? why cant the city assign police officers the job of protecting our schools and our children?

I actually have a strange story where I witnessed an attempted kidnapping at my mother's school (she is a secretary at the school i attended in grade 2-6)

I go in to help her with yearbook stuff since she isnt great with the new computer software, or using digital cameras. So I was loading pictures of the teachers and classes onto her computer when a man came in saying his son moved out of the area and wanted to transfrer his son out the school.... a very normal request. My mom started telling him what paperwork he needed etc, etc and he started making really weird comments. (I was at her desk working and listening/watching all of this happen) He started asking about if Mrs. Franklin and other teachers who ha dretired a long time ago still worked there and said he went to school there. He then claimed the PE teacher at the time used to "touch all the children" (this was also my PE teacher in gradeschool so I knew that was a lie) My mom became suspicious and then asked his relation to the kid, etc and he started to get mad and claimed he wanted to take his kid out right now. She said he couldnt because he wasnt the legal guardian and theyd have to clear it with his parents first. He got angrier and angrier and the principal, and custodian (pretty big guy) stepped in. They begin to scort him out. There was another parent waiting in the lobby of the shcool taking his son out early as well. When his kid came down the school to leave with him the crazy guy starts yelling "theres my son! damien, come here were going home." The kid just stopped and looked scared. The kid's dad looked at him like he was crazy and was like "uhhh... thats my son" and crazy guy starts calling him a liar and says "Damien arent I your father??" The kid just shook his head no, and my mom whispered to the principal that the kids name wasnt even Damien, it was something else. At this point the crazy man just takes off running down the hallway, the vice principal grabbed him but the guy shook him off. I ran down one hall, custodian down the other and the principal down there other to stop him, but he ran outside into the recess area, got on a bicycle and left. School went into a lockdown mode where we had to have people stand guard at all entrances and lock all windows and doors, and call people special officers from the county to come down and stuff. Police started patrolling the area.

A group of elderly men at the 7-11 (called the 7-11 crew, they help the school out with setting up fundraiser dinners, etc just because they are really nice guys from the community) down the street from the school were told about the situation and said the same guy had been in 7-11 yelling about the government shortly afterwards and were able to say which way he went, and he ended up getting caught and taken in for evaluation.

It was just crazy how the guy went froms o normal to so crazy so quickly. Schools are a very vunerable place and generally the staff (especialy in younger shcools) WILL put themselves in danger and jump into a situation to try and stop something like this but these people dont neccessarily know what to do after theyve jumped in so if say the threat has a weapon, or is a better fighter, that makes jumping in useless. Security has been beefed up at schools i the area lately but most of the attention for that goes towards high shcools and middle schools where the students are seen as the potential threats rather than outsiders. Its a shame that an ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, what should be the most innocent place in the world, is now a target

we need police officers to guard schools for us. it really wouldnt be that hard to assign a few cops the task of watching over a school.

a lot of areas, especially ones where problems would arise have a shortage of officers, so even assigning one officer for school would be a huge strain
