I saw that on one of the Kaju boards. All I can say is "ouch." Still, looking on the bright side, 200-1-0 still isn't too bad.

I once attended an Aikido demonstration with a friend of mine who was interested in Aikido.

The master stood in the middle of the mat and his students one at a time came up and threw a punch at him and he easily threw them to the ground. He then asked anyone in attendance who wanted to come up and try.

One guy got up and threw a jab, cross combo, the Aikido master went for the feint and got clobbered by the cross. It turned out this guy was a boxer. My friend was no longer interested in Aikido.

It shows how easily folks can get caught up in their own faulty perceptions of reality based on faulty training that they reach a point were they completely ignore the independent reality.

In the example of the "Kiai" master he probably couldn't even figure out why he had failed. Being a human with no extrordinary powers was probably news to him.

The same thing happened when George Dillman failed to knock out a National Geographic representative with a “Chi” knockout. Dillman's explanation went like this:

“The skeptic was a totally non-believer. Plus – I don't know if I should say that on film – but if the guy had his tongue in the wrong position in the mouth, that can also nullify it [chi power]. You can nullify it – you can nullify a lot of things. In fact, you can nullify it if you raise those two big toes! If I say I'm going to knock you out, and you raise one toe, and push one toe down....I can't knock you out. And then, if I go to try again, you reverse it. If you keep doing this, I won't knock you out.” Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Dillman

Dillmen and all the other shysters are fucking lame!

I cringe when I watch that. It's so sad to me. Watching that old man reach up and grab his busted mouth, looking bewildered at how that could have just happened to him...it's agonizing. Just absolutely gut-wrenching to see someone who has lived a life behind decades and decades of illusions get smashed apart into little tiny bits like that.

At the same time, it is a good lesson for those who believe that chi power
(even a lifelong study of it) is going to save them from a guy who just wants to kick them in the teeth and take their $5000...

Chi power is great for health improvement, but not so much for self-defense.

Indeed. Still hard to watch, though. Seeing an old man getting his ass kicked is never a pretty thing - especially when he asked for it...wait, PAID for it.

I understand, from a friend in Japan, that this was a set up on the old man. All of the students in gi's that you see falling around in theatrics are not the old man's students, they are students of the MMA gym. They are playing along with the old man to strengthen his resolve. Then when it came time to do the business.....well, you see what happened.

That could be right, it could be wrong - but whatever the exact series of events I do think the poor old guy walked into a set up. That said, you need to be careful what you claim.

More importantly, you need to be careful what you believe until you've tested it for real for yourself.

From a personal point of view, I completely agree. But its a human characteristic called faith, and a few billion people in the world with no means to test it, hold onto it.

Faith is supposed to be taken on faith. You don't 'test' faith by demanding an Angel appear or some such thing. Its metaphysical if you will.

The ability to defend oneself should not be a matter of faith, it should be something tested everyday so that when push comes to shove you KNOW (to within a reasonable tolerance) what you can and cannot expect to do.

If you theorize about what you can do, but never actually do it, you are to one degree or another just like that old man.
