I’ve always been impressed with the U.K. combatives seen. Folks, like Dennis Martin et al (Lee Morrison, Nick Hughes, John Skillen, etc). Very practical, ruthless, and attack oriented stuff…I wish I could train with those guys. I don’t know what your affiliation with those guys are (if any) but keep up the good work.

But please leave the gory bit in!

Thanks for the comments mate

There are some good and some bad combatives-orientated guys (you mentioned some of them - both good and bad - I'll leave you to work out which is which!! )

You only hear of the "celebrity combatives" people these days, some have big egos. We tend to leave them people to their own devices.

We've been doing this stuff for over 20 years - before it became the "new/old thing" so our affiliation is to the training based on our first hand experience of applying them in a variety of situations, not to personalities.

Cheers

D

p.s. I'll add in the eye gouging, face ripping and ear biting for the next one

That’s the problem with the “trad” guys they base to much on the particulars of the technique and ignore the fact that some of those ugly techs maybe very effective.

There are i agree some not so great traditional arts and practicioners out there, but there are also a lot of good ones, who understand how and when to use what they have in their art,i come from a Muay Thai and Silat background mainly and belive me those two arts have plenty of people who can use what they got to good effect.

Again just my opinion, but based on 30 years of training in traditional arts.

I don’t wish to be negative or critical, I respect people who make the decision to post their video on the forum for feedback. However, I’m afraid I have to agree with Fire Cobra. I am of course aware that the goal of self-protection is not to be pretty or fancy but to get the job done. It often does, as Darrianation says, appear ugly.

That said, you can still make the clear distinction between good technique and bad technique, strong attributes and skill, even when adapted for a street confrontation. I’m afraid watching the video, the vast majority of what I saw was executed quite poorly. I know exactly what the guys in the video are trying to achieve, but I just have to say that I have seen it done far better.

No offence intended gentlemen, this is purely my personal opinion and I haven’t trained with you personally.

Well thats usually true isn't it.

Our guys are results orientated - it might not look pretty or be "technically proficient" at times during the heat of a fight situation, but we know it works - how? Well its been applied in real time and not from the safety of an armchair or Dojo!!!

I personally couldn't care less about the minute detail of a certain technique its aggression and power development that wins through at the end of the day.

But thats just my/our experience.....

As for Thai Bris comments - Lee is a real gent (I've got articles on his guest writers web-page) - check out his forum.

Cheers

I am results orientated, as is Fire Cobra, we just choose to be technically proficient also.

No one on this thread conducts their martial arts from an armchair, so lets not wade into cliche.

Take the comments in the spirit they were intended, you made the choice to post your video on the forum.
