It should be mentioned. Platt received a mortal wound to the heart at the onset of the shootout. It was determined to be the first wound he received in his attempt to exit the Monte Carlo. Even with modern technology of today at the scene he would not have been saved. He was dead from the onset, but mentally was not going down without a fight. He received three more gunshot wounds crawling over the hood of the monte carlo before reengaging in the fight. But remember, he was already dead. autopsy believes the inital gunshot wound, which severed brachial arties and veins and collapsed right lung filling it with 1300ml of blood and stopping just outside the heart wall was the wound ultimately responsible for Platt's death. (the first wound he received).
It's a good demonstration of the effect the mind can have over the body in a deadly force encounter. He was dead whether he knew it or not, but still fought on. His body still had the ability to fight on even after being mortally wounded from the get go. Something to keep in mind for the rest of us. On a side note: it's interesting the FBI blamed caliber for the catastrophic result of the shootout. When tactics played probably a more important role. Did you know that upon the initial stop one of the FBI agents had his firearm underneath his leg pinned against the seat. When he was forced to slam on his brakes his firearm fell to the floorboard? Putting him out of the fight. It's a good gunfight for study. |
