Hi,
I was wondering if anyone on here has had any direct experience of Marc Macyoung? I have read several of his books, and I think that he writes very well. He has an entertaining style. However I have read mixed reviews on him by people that have trained(or claimed to have trained) with him. Specifically, I would like to know if anyone can verify, or support, Macyoung's claims about what he has done in the past, his experience. Not asking because I want to rubbish Macyoung. I would just like more info if any is available. Thanks. |

Marc does not talk in detail about his nefarious exploits but he does run an elist from his No Nonsense site: look for the Animal E-List button upper right of the first page.
If we get to know you well enough and that leads to trust, there are three folks involved with that list who were there with him. No proof, but who cares? What he does and thinks about and teaches now is the point. Join the list, visit a bbq and get to know him yourself... I've a few reviews of some of his work on my review site, http://defendyourself101.ca, if you care to look. |

Hello,
Thank you for the response. I looked at your sight, it's very interesting. I have looked at No nonsense Self Defence, and I remember reading one of your article there. I am thinking about joining the Animal List. A BBQ would be out, as I don't live in the USA. |

We have a Wushu champ from Belgium, a SWAT Team Leader from England, an Aikidoist (4th dan?) from Singapore and a number of Canadians show up regularly.
Save up and put it together with other interests and who knows???

I LOVE this guy's books, but I seldom here him discussed around here! I would be interested in other people's opinions about him. I knew some guys like him in the Army, way back. Not much to look at, not that intimidating, but damn they could lay some woop-ass!
One guy in particular: I don't know if he was just booze fueled or what. He was smaller then me, and I saw him literally throw himself into a crowd of navy guys and fight several people at once. Kept on getting hit, with bottles, pool cues, fists, feet, and kept getting up. it was like the pain meant nothing to him. He was fighting with minimal flourish, just solid meat and potatoes style brawling. The Navy guys basically ran. Afterword, he looked at some of us like he did not know us, and was still "on". I was scared. Luckily he was our friend. He had told me he had spent a few years as a bouncer, and was from the deep south. He looked like marc MacYoung

A few years ago his name came up around here, If i remember right there was a negative perception of his abilities from some seminar. If you do a search you might be able to find that thread.
I liked his book, but have never met the man or trained with him personally so I can't offer an opinion.

Over the years I have associated with a few men that know Marc personally.
It seems safe to say he has a most outstanding reputation. He is the "real deal" as they say and a gentleman too. Among his peers he is a respected and qualified leader in the industry. His website is on my short list of favorite (Internet) places...
