Self-Defense Scenarios

Hi,

Friday I begin filming for a new book and dvd on women's self-defense.

I've already got my plan together but am looking for suggestions for good scenarios.

Yo Tim!

How about an ATM scenario? A woman is waiting in line to use the ATM and just as she opens up her purse, someone closes in on her with a knife. You hear that one on the news every day.

How about an attempted abduction with either one or two guys? Car pulls up a guy or two rushes the woman and attempts to drag her into the car.

The intentional car accident scenario. Someone bumps the car; the woman gets out to get the insurance info and the man involved tries to manhandle her or beat her with something.

How about defense scenarios against specific techniques the mount (good anti-rape technique), front bear hug around the body, bear hug around the arms, rear bear hug (same thing), head locks (front and back), arm pulls etc.

Thanks Tom. Those are all good ideas. I thought about the ATM scenario. I wonder what my chances of getting shot are? I can just imagine someone thinking it was a real attack!

Well, I suppose you could ask the bank managers if they'd let you tape at one of their ATMs? Maybe they could arrange something for you and even let security stand on your side. If you had a cameraman and a directors chair with the security guy watching, it might lessen the tensions.

How about defense from exit/entry or while sitting in the car? That scenario happens alot too.

I'm planning to do some car scenes too. Years ago I made a tape with some car stuff. I told my training partner to walk up to my car and try to score some punches on me. I grabbed his arm and took off dragging him along side the car. It was slow enough to not hurt him but it sure did make a funny tape!!

Well. one of the biggest concerns women have is rape, and since most rapes are done by someone you know, maybe a date rape situation.

I agree. Most attacks on women are sexual assaults. And statistically, it occurs with someone the woman knows and happens in their own house or a house that is familiar to them. Good luck with your video.

lol, Tim. Looks like a sequence for some kind of action movie.

It seems like during the summer time and winter hollidays more car related, random assults happen to women. I don't have the stats, but they seem to occur while the woman is getting in or has just entered her car. Maybe tactical advice in dealing with a handgun weilding opponent - maybe a weapons vs. weapons scenarios.

About the date rape scenarios, I think any physical confrontation could simulate that with proper verbage of course.

What might set a 'date rape' scenario apart is that it would start from a compliant position. In other words, the woman would already be in the car, or on the couch. Heck, they might already be kissing goodnight.

It wouldn't start with a known line which the attacker crossed, but rather with steadily increasing pressure - probably verbal. The question here would be, when does she react and how forcefully?

Great idea. Have Sherwinc act as the woman and Greenthink as the perpetrator. Greenthink says something like, "ok boy I'm gonna make you bow in a suggestive way!"

Sherwinc replies "NO! I show you chirdianbun fist technique 456.9 and then you bow to me.... CONVINCED!!!"

Seriously....how about having the man and woman on the couch. The guy puts his arm around the woman. She responds by getting closer. Then the wondering hand

So the woman gently moves away and says "I'm not ready for this."

The guys says "C'mon, relax" and continues to molest.

The girl pushes away a little more and says "I'm not comfortable doing this"

The guy starts to get grabby and a little more physical (Here comes the Mr. Hyde freako) and the scene escalates to a struggle. The guy tries to smuggle her and get on top of her. Then she works out of his mount/grab attempt and does whatever she needs to break free and get out.

The guy gets up and persues her after she gets up and she yells at him to stop and ends up throwing a thigh push kick and an overhand palm straight down the middle!!

Tom - you should be a screenwriter! I didn't realize I was going to have to be doing so much acting for this!

The "car gets boxed in and person gets dragged out and beaten" actually happened in Philadelphia a few years ago. I suspect it was a case of road-rage during a traffic jam. A man dragged a woman out of her car and basically wrecked her. The sad thing was, noone intervened and some motorists even cheered on the attacker.

Not to stay on the dark side but these are ugly realities. If you were doing something on rape I would include the club scene not just date rape. There have been alot of cases in NY were men are forcing themselves on women in teh bathroom. Women leve drinks unattended to talk on phone and get slipped a mickey etc.
