Hi Ahsen,
Firstly, let me tell you that I met my boyfriend at my BJJ class and he's "well experienced" in his martial art, as you put it. He's much better than me at BJJ, anyway LOL! (But I could kick his ass in standup... if I was less pregnant of course LOL!!!) Truly, I've never dated martial artists because I was looking for protection. That would kind of negate my training in the first place - if I'm truly learning self-defence, why would I need someone else to defend me? It's got a lot more to do with having a partner who shares your interests. I mean, common ground is important in any relationship, and all successful relationships have it. It might be you have the same political views as your partner, or you both like salsa dancing, or you both like to watch crime shows on TV... So for me, I spend so much time doing martial arts, it's one of my only hobbies that invovles other people, so it makes sense that a good partner for me would also share that passion. I know for my boyfriend, he appreciates having a girlfriend who is interested in martial arts. He is incredibly focussed and can watch the same instructional DVD over and over again, hundreds of times literally. And he spends all his free time reading books or magazines or watching the DVDs to improve his BJJ, and he spends a lot of time training in class or in private with other students. I think if he had a girlfriend who didn't "appreciate" BJJ and what he's doing with it, she'd probably be nagging him about spending more time at home or whatever. To answer your question, if I was single, I'd have no issue with dating or marrying a guy who is not a martial artist. I have dated non-martial artists in the past. What I find helps, though, is if the guy has a passion of his own, so he can understand where I'm coming from when I've got to get up at 5:30 to go train LOL! I also live a pretty healthy lifestyle because of my training, so I'd look for that in a guy. He doesn't have to do MA, but if he looked after himself and wasn't eating fried chicken at every meal, that would be a plus LOL! And I have dated guys who were lower belts than me. Rank on the mat means nothing off it really.

Just to give you an idea of demographics, my boyfriend and I have both been doing BJJ for nearly 5 years. I started a couple of months before him, but had a lot of time off due to some surgery and now because I'm pregnant. He's a 2-stripe purble belt, I'm a 3-stripe blue, so he outranks me.
However, I've been doing martial arts for 16 years - I started karate back when I was an impressionable teen LOL! I've also trained in Judo, TKD (very briefly), karate in another country (USA), aikido, arnis, and Japanese weapons. So I have much more "martial arts" experience than my boyfriend, even though he can tear strips of me on the mat at BJJ LOL!

thanks
I guess it does boils down to common interest at the end. now to improve my pulling technique Its just that i never seen girls in MA dating guys with no MA..its just me I hope that i didn't sound too chauvinistic when I mentioned about women marring guys in MA for protection. Its just that I hear a lot girls requirement, in guy is that they should know fighting skills to protect them...... I don't know For me I think its cool to see the oppoisite sex to do MA and important as I have stated in another forum. I would be glad if I ended up girl whos advanced in BJJ, Kick boxing, karate or any other forms of martial arts. Maybe its because MA girls give a certain positive feel around them like having more confidents in them, more friendly and having a positive attitude. Or maybe I need the protection (which is not bad)PS i though Karate is dead. |

Cakegirl is a good catch, huh guys? She's into MA, probably manages her stress well, takes care of herself and seems like a very reasonable person. PS - she cleans up nicely ![]() ![]()

I think so...Cakegirl is so powerful she can intervene in people's dreams, however she rarely does so because she realizes it will alter the balance of the universe.
