Default MT: Getting Pounded Every Lesson

Getting Pounded Every Lesson By Taekwondo_gal06 - Mon, 14 May 2007 22:19:41 GMT

=========

At taekwondo there is a guy my level, (blue belt) who continues to hammer into me every lesson.

He aims to hit, and hit hard! I get welts from blocking, he's vicious. My arms are covered in black/red bruises, which i have to hide from mum or risk not being allowed to go anymore.

I wouldn't mind if he went hard, without trying to hit me, as we are meant to. But he wants to fight full on, and I really hate it. I'm teamed up with him every lesson, he's in his twenties somewhere and taller than me at sixteen. I'm tempted to start a harsh regime and kick his butt. *frustrated growl* I haven't said anything, I get worse treatment than the blackbelts when they spar. But Master hasn't stopped him so.... Off to balm my bruises.

Any suggestions?

Uhm, no, just no. That is not acceptable!

If the hard contact is not according to the sparring rules at your school, by all means let him know, and let the Master know! There is no sense in that.

We had a kid in class once he was set on making contact. I received a nice crescent kick to the head and a silver dollar sized bruise to the thigh. I did go on the offensive. But be warned, the more you attack the wider open you are to counters...

Well while is always good to get bruises and hard sparring can be of great benefit depending on if you want to b a fighter or not, a guy in his 20's bullying uhe guy is the same level that why he's doing it a black belt wouldn't) is kinda a example of being a dick hopefully some nice black belt guy in his twenties will use him as a heavy bag soon and he'll get the message

When this happens again stop sparring and just ask him to go lighter, that you're not interested in hard training at this time. If he doesn't honor your request with respect then take "the next step".

At your age it's easy for this to become an ego thing and get caught up in trying to prove who's tougher. At my age (and personality) it's real easy for me to stop right in the middle of sparring and yell at him loud enough for everyone to hear; "Hey! What the hell are you doing!?! We're supposed to be sparring, not fighting!" Then walk off the floor, go up to the instructor and say, "Look, I gotta go to work tomorrow and earn a living and I don't need some punk trying to prove how tough he is at my expense. Talk to him or get me another partner."

Believe me, it works like a charm. You just gotta be assertive. As for training hard, that's supposed to be a mutually agreed-upon thing. We've all done it at one time or another but it's not supposed to be a full-contact competition when you're supposed to be just training and perfecting technique.

Fist

ok........every time you see his leg move to kick, through a snap kick in the balls. He throws a punch, kick him in his nads. He rushes....throw a rear leg front kick to his....you guest it....his nuts! He'll eventually get the message and who knows maybe you'll get lucky and he doesnt have a cup.

I have women in our dojo that I spar with, and depending on their skill level, i fight accordingly, how ever that does not mean I drill them so hard that I hurt them and keep them from training. I really respect the women in our dojo that show up for sparring because were kinda a rough bunch, and their willing to stand across and fight with me when alot of there male counter parts won't. We also have a standing rule in our dojo.....if you go real hard and get someone with a more than agreed upon contact, dont bitch when they drill you into the wall.

^ totally the wrong attitude Cis

Osopardo is correct
thats the best way to do it

some woman want it that way

At my dojo i was spirralling with a lady one day and i went easy,
She got annoyed and told me to hit harder like i'm in a real fight

so not all women are sared of a few bruises.

well I'm an instructor, so a little different. However when students don't follow the rules of sparring that I laid out in the beginning of the match, ( I still have a lot of old men and older teens that think they are hot stuff) I let them spar me. If they are hitting to hard, I simply ask them, would you like me to hit you that hard?

I let them know that I have no problem with heavy contact or full contact as long as we both agree. Only once has someone taken me up on high contact rather than back down. He was beaten to a pulp and ended up with huge bruises and a black eye.

I would talk to your instructor and simply explain the situation to him and ask him what he would like you to do.

Ah, today looks like a good day to use excessive force.

Perhaps he doesn't understand that you're not really fighting in a sparring match so he doesn't have to use a lot of force. When I was a lot younger the first time I got into free sparring during class I threw actual punches at the girl I was sparring with but she was smart enough to take the initiative and correct the fact that I shouldn't be hitting really hard.

Take a moment to tell him that you'd really rather not be hit that hard. If he doesn't listen then you need to speak with your instructor and get another sparring partner.
