How best to address issues for women By IcemanSK - 02-07-2008 08:01 PM

=========

As a school owner, I want my students to be able to benefit from things I've learned over the years. This is true for both training & gear issues that arise.

For the boys in my class, I have no problem speaking to them & their folks (mom &/or dad) about the importance of protective cups & reccommending styles. I'm not as comfortable talking support bras or time of the month issues with my female students. I have 2 sisters in class (16 & 13) who are busty & need assistance with sports bra issues. I've got my wife to help address the needs of women in class, but I wonder how other male instructors have dealt with it. I also wonder how to be helpful to female students as a male instructor if there isn't a knowledgeable woman around in your school.

Give the highest ranking lady in class a sempai badge and put her in charge of all things female from protective gear to keeping the front of the gi closed and a t-shirt on underneath. She should police the wearing of perfumes, jewelry and cosmetics onto the floor also.

If you have to do it yourself, be straight forward, calm and no jokes. Use technical terms for body parts if you must name them, not colloquial euphemisms. This can best be done to the whole group of ladies present so no one feels singled out, even if they all know who it is about.

Put appropriate 'rules' into your student manual. It may then be as easy as, "please re-read rule #78.6..."
