Default MT: Do men and women 'fight' differently?

Do men and women 'fight' differently? By harlan - 06-05-2008 09:05 PM

=========

It's been on my mind for a bit...so I asked my husband. One day we're driving somewhere, and I ask him, 'Do you think men and women fight differently?' He looked at me sideways, trying to gauge my mood. LOL!

'Well, in a fight, I don't care what the PC folks tell you, size and mass matters...and a woman is probably going to lose.'

I replied, 'Who said anything about physical fighting? That was YOUR first thought.'

'Oh, well if you mean do I think that men and women think of fighting as different...I'd say yes. A guy dukes it out, and it's over. A woman...even after the physical part is over as far as she is considered you are still fighting. And a woman doesn't just consider punching a weapon...she'll use poisen and kill you.'

I smiled and replied, 'Honey...you are smarter than you look.'

What do you think? Is there a gender difference in what is considered 'fighting'?

Read any communications book on the market with a section on this and you'll have your answer. Better yet, read up on adolescent development and psychology and look at how men and women compete amongst themselves. Women bully in a much different way than men...but who's to say that this gender based distinction is based upon biological sex and not socialization and being taught how to act in certain social roles? Check and see if it's a cultural universal by looking at anthropological ethnographies and maybe you'll come up with an answer...but it's your question and I really couldn't give two shits. It would be an interesting gender studies paper...but I...digest (digress...I just ate betos.)?

I used to work door at a punk bar..maybe..11 years ago.

I found men were easy to throw out - you can usually talk them out of my club. But women were often really stupid about it.

One thing I find is that women tend to not hold anything back. They have been taught their whole lives they are small and weak, and so when they attack, they go as hard as they can. Typically, it's some kind of dumb, clumsy flailing thing they do.

But they do it as hard as they freaking can...

Men have a bit more of a tendency to think about jail and juries and whatnot. Not always, of course, just more frequently.

I teach middle school and have found boy fights are way easier to break up than girl fights are.

It's interesting because this is called the Women's Counter-Offensive Discussion Forum. I generally approve because my personal goal is not to fight, but rather, perform a counter-assault. You might lose a fight -- why play games?

So why should a "counter-offensive forum" be gender specific? Are we trying to say that women need a special approach because they're weaker? If that's true, then shouldn't we all be using it, even though we're stronger?

As for the original question I would ask "What women and compared to what men?"

There was a female student of Dan Inosanto's at the last seminar of his on Hilton Head Island. I can't remember her name but I was impressed with her knife skills. I remember thinking she could gut an unarmed man like a pig.
