I would like to thank my friend and coach Tony Blauer for taking time out of his ridiculously busy schedule to put on a free ground fighting workshop at my gym last saturday.

I have seen a few so called self-defense guys on this site flame Tony. I’ve been to a Tony Blauer seminar back in the panic attack days and he was great.
He has his head on straight and very practical. He always trained people with street clothes on and we sparred and kicked with shoes on and everything. We put on suits (pads) and went at it full speed including multi attacker. We found out what worked and what didn’t. He also addressed the psychological aspect of street defense as well. His whole approach was very practical. I don’t now about things now but back then he was very right on.

Tony is pretty good. He's not my favorite by a longshot, but I would recommend his work. Still, I feel that the SPEAR has some serious flaws. Yes, he has a serious ego problem. For what reason, I do not know.

I never said he didn't have anything to offer. If you can get passed the monotony of his voice and his attempts at impressing you with million dollar words, he's got some pretty good materials. I just can't handle anyone who thinks they are the sole creator of martial arts tactics. Every so often he's crying about someone ripping him off. If you've ever followed his forum on theunderground to date he's claimed everyone from Geoff Thompson, Sammy Franco, Marc MacYoung, Richard Dimitri, Peyton Quinn and a host of others have ripped him off. Iknow Dimitri's trained with him and I used to be a big Blauer fan until I saw senshido's stuff, light years ahead in my opinion and what a difference in personalities. Blauer's just not my cup of tea.

Dimitri is a great guy. Lots of knowledge and very personable. Same goes for Franco. I've trained with both, and they blow Tony out of the water. I also hold Geoff Thompson in high regard. I do not discount Blauer's contributions to self-defense training, but he is nowhere near as good or as important as he thinks he is. Just my .02 cents.

Franco www.sammyfranco.com and Thompson www.geoffthompson.com are up there along side Dimitri www.senshido.com those guys are not only top notch but humble as well. Sit back and watch the Blauer cult cronies come out here and start telling us how amazing 'coach' (chuckles) Blauer is, how he works with cops and soldiers and how many lives he saved *yawn*. Lets go Blauer pupets where art thou?

No, its about Mr Blauer. Not Mr Blow Job.
I've seen a tape of Blauer. My view is that he makes things much too complicated. When things go awry you will be capable of minimal thinking, and have to keep it simple. Last edited by Thai Bri; 07-03-2003 at 08:38 AM. |

anyone catch Blauer's latest bullshit in black-belt? Something about someone complaining about him being to strict and him giving some sob ass story about how he's a perfectionist and elitist. My ass, I'm sure the complaints were about him being such an asshole with his staff and he turned it around to make it sound like he demands perfection. Didn't he also claim copyrights on such words as flinch and panic attacks? yuk yuk
