Heh....he did end up leaving her. All I know is she didn't get any charges cause the cops wouldn't believe him.

Course, it's possible what I read was completely/partially fabricated (it wasn't on the Internet...can't believe a thing on there).....but that's just the story that I saw. And it's possible I could've left out some key parts....I've slept since then.

The year is l953. A white patron is having a meal in his favorite rural Georgia restaurant. He turns to his friend and states:
"You know, God (or evolution if you prefer) made the white race to have dominion over people of color. He made us smarter, gave us power blah blah blah. That is the way things are. If people of color don't accept this, then they are living in some "ideal fanatasy world." They need to accept reality and either go back to Africa or learn some options for dealing with our treatment of them (injustice, humiliation, torture, rape, murder).

Do you guys recognize this man's argument? You should, because you have applied it to men's violence against women in 2003:

The year is 2003. A guy is posting on a "women's self defense forum." He posts that"Evolution has made men the aggressive, powerful terminators that we are. God made us smarter, more logical, more powerful than women- he made us to have dominion over them blah blah blah. Men's violence against women is reality-its the way things will always be. If women don't accept this, then they are living in a fanatasy world. The best they can hope to do is learn some self defense options."

Thank God that Martin Luther King, Jr. didn't respond using your line of reasoning. He didn't turn to his congregation and say:
"White people are incapable of goodness. Our only option, as people of color, is to accept the fact that white people will always treat us with injustice, always humiliate, torture, segregate, and murder us. Our only option is to learn some self defense."

Please note that I have not called any of you "dick head" or changed the spelling of your names (perhaps you have more in common with that restaurant patron than you recognize.)

Please take a minute and recognize that violence against women-that racism, sexism, and homophobia are are tools of patriarchal oppression. Are you claiming not to recognize the similarities?

Lorne, although my views differ from yours, I appreciate your attempt to have an intelligent discussion on this forum. If you can read through the various insults and ignorant posts, you should see that you have a good number of intelligent posters in your audience. Thus far you have yet to explain your logic. Yes, women are abused and taken advantage of by men. However, you have somehow jumped to the conclusion, and subsequently insulted all males, by stating that it is OUR fault. Other than chastise the entire male population, you have not explained HOW we can make a change. What is your proposal? What is the feasibility of that proposal?

I see the message that you're trying to instill with your MLK example, but I must say it's a poor example. No where on this thread did I read someone say that is how men are, so women should just accept it. True, MLK never said "f*** it, the white devil. He is the way he is." But he did use the methods that were most effective to get his point across. So once again, what is your proposal?

Furthermore, you believe that educating women in self defense is a poor action to take. Rather, you want to complain more about the shortcomings of males. Why is self defense a poor course of action? Proper physical defense techniques in conjunction with greater intelligence and awareness on behalf of women AND men are perhaps the greatest tools that we can employ. Is it your opinion that this problem would best be addressed with a series of protests and sit-ins?

And you haven't addressed your blatant misrepresentation of statistics that a previous user rebutted. Can you please explain the relevance of the "8 out of 10" stat to the obvious guilt of all men? I went through the math myself and came up with similar figures. A few bad apples ruin the bunch, but by subscribing to that belief, does it not make you guilty of sterotyping?

In answer to lorne's challenge. What have I done to help women?

Men are naturaly designed to rape, pillage, fight and kill. Its instinctive, we all have the capability to do these things even if we are taught that it is "wrong".

I have never raped anyone, I rarely fight. By going against my natural male evilness I have done something to help.

Whoever said that thing about the gazzelle and the lions had a very good point. What really matters in life isn't what you want to do, it's what you CAN do.

Lorne you WANT to make all men peaceful and non aggressive. But you can't do that (unless you use technology to create a society wihout men, which might not be such a bad idea OR spend a few thousand years selectively breeding men to be peaceful). What you CAN do is teach women (and men for that matter) how to avoid getting raped/killed.

At the very least you could accept that teaching women self defense is a good short-term solution.
