however, of my three MT instructors (two are thai) they all say that you should never attempt to kick a competent opponent above the ribs. if that persons upper defense is that bad use your hands and elbows. am i saying you should NEVER kick higher than the ribs, hell no, but you had better be VERY carefull and set it up correctly or you will get dumped on your a$$.
so basically they are saying the same thing that i just said. "Don't force an attack rought take what's open, dont force the issue". Besides Samko is famous for his impartialness to his high kicks.

If you listed all of the good fighters that went on to live their potential - they all reached a peak and sustained it, before most of them were defeated and gracefully retired.

With all due respect to Bruce, if he had reached his peak, sustained it, was dfeated, and then retired - do you think that this topic would ever had been discussed? I think not.

With Bruce there are too many if's, but's and maybe's for us to assume that he would've progressed to be the best fighter of all time, even though some truely believe that he is/was - which is fine by me.

I strongly disagree. There is no "anti-high kick belief" in MT. It might not overly focus on high kicks but there prejudice against high kicks in MT. It's all about attacking what is open.

    FUH-Q,
    It's Savate and not sivat.
And yes, Bruce Lee did adopt a lot of Savate type Kicks and some MT kicks along with other striking techniques like knees and elbows.

He had insight, that's right, but he wasn't the only one.

As far as I kow he didn't train full contact like MT fighters do, so I don't see how people can think he would survive

Taken that most think Karate TKD kung fu snapkicks are useless in MMA and he did snapkicks, how could he survive

Seriously, I don't know but am just amazed at how shure people are he would kick ass in MMA
You make some good points here but I think Bruce (as a progressive thinker) would have adjusted his training to make himself more competitive in the MMA arena. Who’s to say he would compete at all. I really don't know but it seems to me that he wasn't interested in competition. He was more into taking martial arts and making it effective, and practical. He was a rebel and a self thinker that thought out of the preverbal box. He seemed much more interested in self-defense than anything else. He may have stubbed his nose at the NHB tourney’s and went about his business who’s to say.

However this thread is all theoretical and what might happen if he was here, or if the UFC/Pride was around then, so there is a lot of room to play with this.

The one thing I do believe is that he was a good athlete and he had an incredible mental toughness and that goes a long way. In the end who really knows what would happen. We are just giving our opinions.
