I know you posted about SWCC elsewhere but, this won't be news to anyone there. When dealing with recruiters if you don't have it in writing, you don't have it, PERIOD!! Contracts are just that and they're in triplicate, you can't prove verbal contracts so recruiters LOVE to make them. Recruiters who miss their quotas are sent to the front line. Now NOTHING scares a recruiter more than being on the front line and running into someone he recruited who isn't happy, especially if he hooked them with typical recruiter tricks. It's also no fun for Navy recruiters who are trapped on a ship with people they tricked. Point is they'll do and say almost anything to get you to sign up and stay out of the fleet!! Signing bonuses are often only paid in full if you complete schools and courses that 1 out of 10 candidates graduate from.

Another issue that I had personal experience with was being promised going to Boot as an E3 and graduating school as an E4. That was a "special program" so is specwar, you only get ONE special program and specwar schools ALWAYS happen after your initial schools which decide your rate (job)... they don't offer special bonuses or promotions for rates unless they're short that type of operator...once you graduate school for that specialty you WILL be sent to the fleet to do that job. Once at your new command they need you (short supply remember?) and the Navy spent Millions training you, they aren't going to let you leave that command to go to a different special school especially if you're good at your job, now if you aren't good at your job your Evals will suck and you'll NEVER get into specwar, it's a catch 22. You will HAVE to spend a minimum of a year at the new command before they'll even consider allowing you to apply for the programs your recruiter PROMISED you. Now for the kicker...Specwar has source ratings it draws from and they're NEVER special rates like the ones recruiters get you to sign up under (because THEY get bonuses for filling those slots)...SO now you'll have to get waivers to go back to school and change rates which is almost impossible to do since they need the specialty rate they recruited you for and aren't likely to throw the money and time they invested in you away to send you to a different school so you can leave the command entirely. Then suddenly, they point out that you only have a couple years left on your current enlistment and it wouldn't make sense for them to send you to school only to have you get out and use their training as a private contractor... but if you'll REENLIST they'll see you get that school you need to have a rate that specwar accepts as a source rating...so about 5 years AFTER your initial enlistment you MIGHT get what the recruiter promised but guess what? By then you'll be too old...

Not bad but have you done them all at once with NO break yet? When I went through the moment I climbed out of the pool they wanted the pushups which sucked since the only strokes allowed on the swim were the breast stroke and sidestroke, then without any break they make you do the pull ups, as soon as you're off the bar its situps then we had 3 minutes to put on boots and full gear for the run...its the combination thats a bitch.

I've been appointed boat captain, which I'm pretty thankfull for. So I train my boat crew most of the time; our LPO comes in once or twice a week, smokes us and or tests us to make sure we are were we need to be.

Going through the PST with NO break sounds like a b!tch, but for the sake of making sure my boat crew is adequately prepaired for BUDS/SWCC/EOD/Diver, I'm gonna try this with them some time soon.

Some of the dudes who are failing, with rest, are gonna hate me and give attitude.

In the personnel sense, I've gone ultra easy on them; they've never experienced someone in their face, tearing them new a-holes while having to stay focused on an evolution/excercise and keep up their drive.

Not saying that I've got this down, but I've had a fairly realistc taste of this.

Its a different experience.

Boar, I feel I am ever so much closer to being in peak condition. And when I reach it, I'm going to push further - paying attention to health of course.

My PST qualifies for every NSW school at the moment; and most of my scores are 'competitive' for SEAL level. My run is very close. The most frustrating part? They're slow to give me an age waver despite putting out and demonstrating above passing performance scores.

Pushups: 79 -> my score: 91
Situps: 79 -> my score: 97
Pullups: 11 -> my score: 17
1.5 mile run: 10:20 -> my score 10:29

The recruiters are convinced that my age, which is waiverable, will leave me more succeptible to injury? They say they'll re-submit my age waiver, once I run below a 10:00 1.5 mile run.

Just today, I busted the other younger recruits for not keeping up with me. Hell, I'm too old LOL.

Martial arts training is NOT able to prepare you for BUD/S (or the SEAL Teams in general), but it is beneficial in conditioning your mind, body and spirit..

You won't have time to learn those arts now, and although you've probably noticed the SEALS you've met prefer to train in the CMA's that isn't what the Teams want you focusing on as a candidate.

BEWARE the clowns and posers who claim to have gotten training from SEAL instructors or to teach SEAL combatives, they don't exist. The POI for SFQC and all SMU's is classified (hence the people who are clueless they even exist.)

- The Naval Special Warfare community does NOT recognize only one specific form of martial arts or system of fighting. All of the advertisements that say "The OFFICIAL Navy SEAL Hand 2 Hand Comabt System..." or anything similar is just a sales technique - nothing else. These "systems" or "programs" may have been used in platoon work-ups or in the Combat Fighting Course (CFC), but not one specific style is exclusive in the Teams. Some arts that are effective for application within the SEAL Teams include Ninjutsu and Israeli Krav Maga. Martial arts training is NOT able to prepare you for BUD/S (or the SEAL Teams in general), but it is beneficial in conditioning your mind, body and spirit.

I'm a strong supporter of using what works, whether its popular or not. Another reason why I've been looking and talking to others about the Chinese & Indonesian arts.

I've never been against Combatives. Never once on this forum have I stated anything negative about it.

I never said you bad mouthed combatives Tom. But some people feel it's alright to berate others who follow the concepts as opposed to other arts.

I've only seen about half a dozen gong fu movies my entire life.

PS- I processed at MEPS a few months ago. Got a waiver approved. They've put me in EOD, as it seems they've overbooked SEAL candidates. My times and scores on all but one event are 'competitive' for SEAL PST.

COMBATIVES the truth hurts.

Well if you want to learn how to fight then let me point you in the direction of the most blasphemous term on this forums.

COMBATIVES. WWII combatives formed from taking Kung-FU and Japanese MA's and combining them with western fighting skills. It took the long involved process of learning several styles and condensed it. It gives you the information you need to know and the skill sets you need in a short period of time without all the political and familial bullshit mixed in.

Applegate and his crew learned these arts and took what was needed to survive and end a conflict quickly and created COMBATIVES out of them. I placed a link to the history in the future of training thread. Check it out it's all there.

Regardless of what other people may feel or think it stands up for itself. If you really do go into SF this is what they teach you will be based on. It's not fancy and it doesn't look cool on youtube but it has been proven on battle fields across the world and has with stood the test of time. It is an ever evolving system. There are only two kinds of people in a real combat the quick and the dead . The 5 minute Jackie Chan fight is bullshit and will get you killed. Fighting is and always has been an ugly thing that "Civilized" society frowns upon.

So if you want to learn to fight for real then Tom learn COMBATIVES, because in a real life or death situation it has been proven to be the fastest most effective way to stay alive. Even the Germans after finding a military manual off an Allied soldier started their own combative programs, guess even they thought the enemy had a good idea and remember they were the master race in their eyes.
