I am wondering who here teaches privately and makes alittle cash on the side?
I was thinking of starting that kinda stuff with some fitness program incorporated into them and calling it some "fusion" thing.
I know you guys are suspecting that I am starting some McDojo thingy but that is not what I intend to do. My plan is to run it privately, get the people to basically do some exercise, some basic techniques and simple sparing at the most.I will not teach them beyond the basics; basically I am just providing a service for people to meet other people, exercise, learn alittle then they can go off to whatever local school to follow their own path. Basically my task is just to motivate people into martial arts while I get a couple of dollars out of it.

    what are your opinions?

    Try It

It sounds like a good idea. You should go for it.

How should I structure it since I have never done such things before. I would like some sort of structure, perhaps a 12 week program or somthing. any McDojo or Real Dojo business owners that would like to help?

        What would I do?

First, try and find out what days & spots that gym has available. Also find out what price that gym charges for renting their space, and liability issues. Once that's taken care of, setup a ma program that builds one's strength and cardio. (After 12 weeks, a student should see results). If you're a good teacher and trainer, you'll not only have good students, but you'll also bring more potential customers to their gym. Good Luck!

you gotta set up a structure to build a good all around fighter. In you martial arts training , you'll need to achieve certain goals for each belt. If you crunch it up a bit, you might be able to teach good enough to get people to the green belt level. Depending on how many days a week your training. By the time a person reaches a green belt level, thats usually gives them a solid base fighting structure. But with a straight 2 month training program, i'd set up specialty training on toning with iether weight lifting or medicin ball workouts. Then set the standard on offensive hand techniques and defensive techniques. Set a goal of what the'll need to learn for kicks for each belt level. Then get more into block and counters when getting ready for green belts.

Thats kind of how I structure my training program. I have set things a person has to learn for each belt level from white to black belt. Then I also have thing specific that Boxers need to learn for different boxing levels. But, I teach in a way, that i'm trying to build instusturs out of them. That old style of building drones it out. Teach to build technitions of the art and make it a good learning experience. But set goals.

This is my orange belt testing requirments:

          WR #1
          Orange Belt testing requirements

          1.) Perform kata WR#1
          2.) Perform punches:

          b) cross
          c) backfist strike
          3.) Perform blocks:
          a) down block
          b) double knife hand block
          c) outside block
          d) high rising block
          4.) Perform Kicks;
          a) front kick
          b) reverse front kick
          c) round house
          d) side kick
          5.) Perform Combinations
          a) 2 different 2 step combinations with hands
          b) 2 different 2 step combinations with feet
          c) 2 different 3 step combinations with hands and feet together
          6) Know Stances:

teach to get people to green belt in 2 months is probably stetching things a bit thin. On average it takes a perons 3 months to obtain each belt.

But to teach martial arts, I try and get people the knowledge of how to fight, defend, build tone, know some proper nutrion facts and set goals to obtain to make a good all around fighter.

i have some advice i would like to share

because i always been an adult school, fitness is the number two thing we advertise for. i have a student in texas who writes very well who writes up most of my ads, and he studied people like loyd irving and matt furey, and uses this kind of advertising to bring people in. you should google their names to see the ads they do, they are very good and bring you lots of people. the idea is that people whose interested in what you teach will read it, the ones who are not interested will not. so the most important thing is, tell them in the beginning exactly what they going to be reading to weed them out.

now that i said all of that you have a great idea, just have to find a good way to advertise it. its going to cost money, and i recommend that you use signs on the street and door knob hanger flyers they work the best.

and also, craigslist. i always have craigslist and david always have three or four ads in different places, in craigslist advertising different things about the same class, fitness, self defense, anti mugging, anti bully (kids class), weight lost, body building, overweight kids, cross train your kids athletes from basketball/soccer/football etc.

                hope this helps you
