  • Endurance: I need to throw more punches

    Hello
I have an endurance type question regarding my past few amateur boxing matches. I consider myself to be in pretty good cardiovascular shape. I can usually last a long time in the ring as far as my "wind" goes. I'm not usually out of breath at the end of the match.

In my last few fights I noticed that my shoulders start to burn/fatigue towards the end of the fight so I cant throw many punches compared to the amount of punches I was throwing at the start of the fight. Now even though I win most of them, the ones that are close decisions or that I lose is usually partly due to not being able to throw a lot of punches.

The snappiness of my punches goes down towards the end of the fight as well. I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me how I need to train so I can throw more punches without my shoulders and arms getting tired?

As far as my 'wind" goes Im not really that tired at the end of the fight because I do both aerobic and anaerobic running because I know thats what I'm supposed to do to get good wind. It's just my shoulders!

    Thanks
    Puncher7

    Advice

The human body is pretty simple. If you want to get better at not breathing heavy, you do something that makes you breath heavy, and your body heals it. Most people choose running for that. If you want to get better at throwing lots of punches without feeling a burn, throw punches till it burns, then throw more, then let it recover. Throw 200 jabs in a row at the heavy bag quickly.

Hey Puncher7..nice to see another guy that fights in the ring. I had the same problem when I was a young fighter. Here's what worked for me. Lots of push-ups, pull-ups and dips...trying to concentrate on being explosive. Then "intervals" on the heavy bag. Go for 3 min. rounds and throw a jab/cross (left/right for conventional fighters, opposite for southies..) combination as fast as you can with some zip on em'...just keep throwing untill you start to feel the burn...go further until your form starts to falter...take a quick breather (like 10-15 secs.) and go at it again. Do this for the entire round. Do about 2-3 rounds of this a couple times a week and you will start to get better. BTW...good job being diligent with your road work...that's the foundation of all greatness in the ring. Good luck!
What weight class do you fight at? What's your record?

          Personnaly, i'm suggest
Use Little Weight in your hand when you jogging, put your hand in Fighting position and Run! Try to Use The same weight for Shadows boxing.
Your Arms and Shoulders gain a lot of Endurance with the Weights, after a couple of workout, when you fight with the normal fight glove.. your going to find it really light, and easy to move fast.

For the Punching endurance, you gain 17-20% more endurance with the weight, the other solution, it's to train really hard on the Heavy Bag and speed bag.

Try to Strike More and More, Rounds after Rounds.
Try to punch always +15 at each rounds on the heavy bag.
          After 2-3months of training, watch'out!

Tell me what do u think on it..
I Try this Technique with a lot of my students, and it always work at 100%

          Good Luck with Your Training
