New to boxing and of course since it's NOT a career choice.....safety is a concern. Having read the 411 you posted however is making me seriously consider going into the ring in a couple of months. It's amateur league and we were told that we would have full grill....now's thats up in the air. what kind of stats on injuries can be found with full protection if any? Thanks for the info.

Amateur boxing is statistically pretty safe. If you check out USA Boxing's web site, they have some pretty detailed comparisons of other sports. It was found to have a much lower occurance of injuries than football, soccer, or even gymnastics. The most important points to remember are to prepare relentlessly for a fight, and make sure you use quality protective gear. Good luk to you.

Also, in amatuer boxing, it is scored on a points absed system, and a lot of serious amatuers will fight for points, and not knockouts.
speed and accuracy is as or more important than power. so It is much safer than pro boxing.
      have fun and good luck.
