sam garr vs. matt vanda

If you saw this fight on Janyuary 16 or 17, you know that Matt Vanda, the hometown hero and star boxer beat the veteran champ Sam Garr in a split decision by the judges (2 of 3 were hometown). I was rootin for vanda the whole fight, but knew that he was getting his ass kicked by garr. Near the end of the fight espn was giving the fight a 100 to 73 in favor of garr. It was so clear that Gar had won that the only way Vanda could has possibly won was by knockout. When the fight ended, both Vanda and Garr thought Garr won, but the judges thought against it. Now Vanda sits at 30-0 and Garr sits with 3 losses in a row.

To quote Teddy Atlas on the night of the fight "This Stinks!!!" Shit like that is exactly what's wrong with boxing today. The last thing we need, especially in the wake of the recent Bob Arum controversy, is the smell of another fix. I saw the fight, and clearly Garr won. The state that they fought in (Minnesota, I think) has no boxing commision of it's own, that may be part of the problem. Garr took a big chance going into that guy Vanda's back yard...in a situation like that it is usually better not to leave anything to chance...go for a K.O.....still though, it was Bull@#$%!!
