  • What kind of Boxer are You?

Me, I think of myself right now more as a Boxer with the ability to slug during the course of a fight if need be. I use a lot of hand and body movement to evade my opponents to keep them off guard and set up my attacks, and I use a lot of footwork to stay in and out range of my opponent. I do not try to fight conventionally, due to its' predictable nature. I use a lot of jabs both offensively and defensively, and I pick and choose when to strike with precision. I use punch, body, and foot fakes as well against my opponents. Although I can fight decently in these other areas, I know that I need to work on my slugging skills, and fighting from the southpaw stances.

A goal I have is to become a "True" Boxing Master. I know that it will take years to accomplish, but it is a desire that I want to take.

I am more of a straight ahead kinda guy. I am a large person (heavy weight) and strength is one of my biggest assets. I also can take a lot of damage and keep on going. I have very fast hands, but as I get older and a little rounder my ability to move fast (body and feet) gets a little slower. I have a tough time with snipers that can get in and out fast, but if I can pin em’ in the corner watch out.

I feel my technique is good, and I can slip punches with the best of them but my bob and weave isn’t so great but as a MT fighter (I also trained a little in boxing) I never tried to develop that aspect very much.

I'm a little bit strong for my size (I bench 225 for 6 reps, military press 155 lbs for 8 reps and squat 365 for 8 reps -in the super middleweight category), am pretty agile and quick on my feet.

I'm most comfortable at medium to long-range throwing straights and hooks. I keep pretty good head movement for slipping and bobbing and the counter punches open up. My foot work helps me get the angle and step in when I have to, but I never stay inside and trade since most of the people I spar are usually heavier. I work on getting in, landing and getting out quickly.

im pretty much a boxer. i can be agressive when i want, but i really like to play defense and wait for an openent to open up. im a light person, im 5'10 160, so i like to use speed and footwork.

I'm the type of boxer that gets frustrated about not being allowed to use my feet, so I generally stick to kickboxing

I have a karate background, so I have fast straight techniques, and don't feel that comfortable yet with hooks or uppercuts.

I'm a female heavyweight - I punch like a man, but am flexible enough to kick to the head (in kickboxing).

definitely a counter boxer. I wait for my opponent to make an opening and let them have it. light and fast (I am gaining weight though, putting on the pounds until I get to around 70-75kg). my hands are probably my biggest asset, If I can get in I can really go to town with the body shots. my legs are average because of a hip injury that I was carrying (its ok now but its going to take a while for the muscles to stretch back into place properly) but I can still knock them down as you can see from my journal.

Yeah, a little bit. Super middleweight is in the 160's? pounds?

Your military press and squat are pretty insane for a 165 pound guy!

                  Holy shnikes!

I'm the typical American goofball: bench 245 once, squat 145 a coupla times (well ok 10 times, but still...) I'm working on getting a better balance. I'll weigh in the 160's pretty soon too.

i am more of a sniper with good foot work due to my tkd backround. i move in and out a lot when i box and usuall jab to the head. I havent boxed in a while though i have been training hard at my tkd.

Thanks. I don't look strong, so it adds to the shock value. Most guys who pop on two 45's on each side and get ready to bench are atleast 50 lbs heavier.

Pure Slugger. I have good power, good hand speed, and OK foot work. I like to get inside and dig the ribs with both hands, and then work my way up. As for goals, I'd like to have stronger footwork and evasion. A guy with a solid jab gives me trouble. If they can live behind the jab and have good side to side movement I have problems.

Back when I was boxing welterweight, I was one of the few to fight out of a crouch and I more preferred infighting, so I was more of a Slugger type I suppose. I can fight decently the traditional way however, and against shorter opponents who liked to fight inside as well I'd rather keep them outside and away from me and only get in close on the powder-puff punchers who like to win on points. Guess that makes me a Boxer/Slugger.

                              Me a slugger

Slugger. I grew up and boxed in the Mike Tyson era and I'm built kinda like him, so I throw hooks and uppercuts and am an inside fighter. I alway admired Tyson in his prime and tried to copy his style. My goal has been to become better at straight punching.
