If you asked this question when Tyson was in his prime before he fought Evander and Buster, I would have said Tyson, but after seeing him get exposed for the lack of heart and desire he has shown, It's Ali all the way.
As far as Tyson is concerned, he is just one big bully. If any boxer shows that he is not afraid, Tyson simply loses is composure and confidents and resorts to bad tactics. I still feel he has something left though. In my opinion, he needs to see a shrink just like that guy from South Africa (I don't recall his name of hand). The HW division lacks talent and he can easily win one of those belts.

I vote Rocky would beat all of them hands down LOL if he was a real boxer

Other than that I bet Ali would suprise Tyson with his phantom punch, since Tyson is known for letting his guard down.

I honestly believe that Tyson the contender with Kevin Rooney, Jimmy Jacobs and company in his corner would KO Ali before 10 rounds. Tyson prior to Robin Givens, the death of Jacobs and the distractions of his night life was the most devastating heavyweight I have ever seen and for me that's 1965 to 2005. Unfortunately he has shown that he also is the most mentally fragile heavyweight champion I've ever seen.

Ali in the later rounds. He'll keep Tyson at bay and hounding him with his mouth and wear him out, then finish him off once Tyson gets punched out.

I see Tyson winning early in the match. Ali was into defense in the early rounds but it only takes one shot from Tyson to take you down. Without Ali throwing very many strikes it allows Tyson to rain down the pain on Ali and I think that would be too much for almost anyone.

it would probably be like Ali v Frazier 3 and would probably have the same outcome.

                    This is laughable...

Ali at any age up to 36 would have beaten Tyson in his prime. Tyson was very overrated because of the weakest heavyweight division in history until maybe today's heavy's. Tyson beat a bunch of nobody's and when he finally faced a tough cruiserweight (Holyfield) potraying himself as a heavyweight, he got destroyed (twice). Tyson has always had difficulty with bigger (taller) fighters dating back to guys like Tony Tucker and other household names

Ali was the best heavyweight in history hands down. The heavyweight class when he fought was arguably the toughest in history, and Ali was without a doubt the class of the heavyweights. As the man used to say, he could float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. The man who destroyed the machine known as George Foreman in his prime would have had no difficulty in doing the same to Tyson, but in much shorter time...Ali's destruction of George Foreman was probably the most impressive heavyweight win in history.

No, Ali versus Larry Holmes in his prime would have even been a much better fight...they were holding Larry Holmes down when he was in his prime in the early to mid 70s because they knew nobody could beat him. Ali and Holmes probably had the best jabs in heavyweight history and both had excellent chins and boxing skills, combined with speed and power. And Holmes was once Ali's sparring partner in the 70s...so that tells you something when the boxing world was holding him back much like they did with Marvelous Marvin Hagler, or Marvin Hagler as he was known as at the time.

                      Deterioration

Tyson's skills deteriorated after Cus's passing.

He stayed up late and partied harder than he trained and it showed. That's why he lost - his discipline and focus were gone and his skill followed.

Tyson was an unfinished project, that started out real strong.

The reason why Holyfield beat him is because he watched tape after tape of Tyson and worked harder preparing for the fight.

"El Torito" Tony Ayala is a better example of untapped potential or an unfinished project in my humble opinion.

I have a difficult time with Tyson's caliber of opponents, his difficulties with the bigger heavyweights and his suspect chin. It is also hard for me to attribute these difficulties all to the passing of one man (Cus D'Mato).

                          Tyson would have won

The Tyson of the 1980s would have beaten ali by round 5.

Mike and Dimmak - I agree 100% - I think the big difference is that Ali was used to fighting the heavy hitters and compensating for his like of power. While tyson never fought someone that riveled or surpasses his power of was not intidated by him. When the initimadation factor was gone mike lost. Mike was a fighter not a boxer. Ali would have respected his power, but not his boxing ability. Now way I believe that tyson had the power of a young Foreman. Also somthing to think about anyone that can fininsh a boxing match with a broken jaw is not getting KO'd any time soon. One other note, remember when Ali fought these were 16 round not 12 round fights. I know Mike was KOing opponents in 3 rounds but if the fight even went to 12 MIke would not be standing

Well mike had a few matches which went to 12th round but he was very tired by the end. And when he lost to holyfield, he got headbutted like 4 times lol, that isn't a reason to bite his ear but still holyfield was playing dirty too. I saw the match yesterday. Anyway my vote is Ali KO's tyson in rounds 5-8.

Everyone talks about today’s fighters not being able to go 15, you’re all right. The reason is they DONT TRAIN to go 15 rounds. The "Early" Tyson trained to fight 12 rounds, Why, because he fought 12 rounds. If he had been fighting 15 he would have trained to fight 15. If Cos had stayed alive, good chances Mike would still be champ today.

People say Mike was not a boxer, well only a boxer can make his opponents miss they way he did and then counter. Most talk smack about Mike because he is an easy target, he is not a nice guy and comes off as dumb as a box of rocks. Well I have personally met Holyfield on more than one occasion and he is a down right ass wipe also. He hides behind the bible like all bible thumpers do, but he is just another ass wipe.

Back in the day most people thought Ali was a real jerk. One thing I can’t ever recall seeing is Ali fighting any good fighters who believed in body shots. I believe if Norton, Frasier or Forman had been heavy on the body instead of trying so much for the head as most heavies do they would have chopped him down like a tree. He was always open for the body shots, but for some reason no one took them. I believe the Mike under Cos would have done that. Anyone here can give some names of any body hunters he fought?

Its easy for us to try the what “ifs”. I personally feel one of the best heavy weights in history was Jack Johnson. But that’s another topic all together.
