I agree that Roy was off that nite. That can happen to anyone. Under train, over train, all kinds of things affect fighters but only the best on that day gets to walk away the winner and thats what counts.

I'm a firm beleiver that no matter how good a fighter is, theres a fighter out that has our number and we just can't beat them. I'm not saying that Tarver was that fighter for Roy but it was his nite.


What I didn't like about Tarver was on Camera he said he was the "pound for pound champ."

He beat the pound for pound but the "title" is earned over time.

Roy Jones' Jr. loss and Antonio Tarver's place in Boxing

It begins to make me wonder if RJ Jr. is as good is most of us think he is, and/or was. True, for some time he fought against lower tier fighters, but this loss is especially devastating to his legacy in boxing history. I was greatly disappointed in the fact that RJ Jr. lost to Tarver, but it was Tarver's night.
I was hoping that he would demoralize Tarver in 12 rounds, but apparently, it could not be done. Maybe it was because he has not had any serious competition for some time, maybe he is past his prime, and should retire, or maybe Tarver is the one who has his number. To me, RJ Jr.'s place in boxing history has been greatly jeopordized that night.

Antonio Tarver's victory was great for him and RJ Jr. haters, but several things come to mind about his place in the Boxing world right now. To me, he still does not have the ring presence that RJ Jr. has/had, or any of the top fighters. He claims that he is the new pound for pound king, he has not earned that yet. Take on Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Oscar De La Hoya, or some other top fighters, or even RJ Jr. again for a great triology. One fight just does not make a fighter the King of the Hill. I have never heard of him before their first fight, and even though I respect his victory, to me he still has not earned that place he has placed for himself yet. Maybe it is just my personal opinion, or maybe the fact that I really do not care much for Antonio Tarver as a fighter, but from what I have seen, he is not "there" yet. He is good, but not that good yet.

He defeated RJ Jr. that night, but he still has a way to go to state his case as the best Boxer in the world.

I think the win went a little to tarvers head. He keeps saying he will knock tyson out if they ever fight. He is saying he is gonna move up into the heavies. LOL

I would love to see him jump up 30-50 lbs and get his ass beat. Will be great to watch, Tyson would tear him up in less then a round. The guy is clueless, I can't wait till he gets in the ring with a heavy and feels the power they have in their hands.

i heard rjj wants a rubber match, I lost the link, but i definetly read it. I mean, im sorry, but im still debating myself wether it was a lucky punch or not, when watching a video of the fight it looks like tarvers eyes were closed when he threw that left, but it was still a legit knockdown and much credit goes to tarver for it, i myself dont particulary like the guy tho, that knockdown has gone straight to his head.
