? on different bags

I'm planning on purchasing a free-standing platform that holds both a heavybag, and speedbag. The problem is that I've never used one before, and I know there are different types of bags as far as weight is concerned.

Does it matter what weight-sized bag I start with or no? Also, what type of gloves should I use while working the heavy, and speedbags?

Concerning Speed Bag Sizes, I would suggest starting out with a medium size bag, such as 11x8. It is easier to control and is not so fast as to run away from a beginner.
