  • I'm gonna try my hand at boxing.

Yesterday, I sparred with a friend of mine to see if I could do well at the next Police Games near me.

Anyway, he hit me with a few good shots (my neck is hurting like all get out today). But, he told me that I did pretty good. My defense was good and I threw a few good punches. This particular guy fought professionally for a while until he took a job with my organization, so his compliments were genuine and I was happy to hear them.

Now, I just have to drop my weight about thirty pounds between now and April and find a good boxing club in Tucson. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm going to be hitting the cardio like it's going out of style. I'm still going to hit the weights because I want to have the power and strength that took me over three years to get.

Congratulations and good luck to you! Don't overtrain though, take your time.

I only plan on doing some boxing training about once a week as that is all I have time to do so these days (wife, kids, school, work, things that are usual for guys reaching 30!).

I have eight months to get trained up. I think that will give me plenty of time.

Thanks for your words of encouragement and your advice.

      Take care.

I wish I could fight in the Police games!! Anyways, good luck, and have fun with it. Do you have any other background in MA or combative arts? Just curious. Train hard.

Why not try both hands? That way you'd have a better chance!

I don't have any boxing experience. Just martial arts. I think I'll do okay, though. I'm a quick learner.

                learn with fun

                Hey

Are you a daredevil who really loves doing things that people mostly fear? I am! You know what; to quench my thirst for adventure and thrill, I visited www.extremethings.com a link my son came across while surfing. I explored the site on his suggestion. It is a site for the people who love to njoy life by experiencing the ecstasy of outdoor adventure sports and activities. They have everything from rock climbing to boxing, and from romantic gondola rides to pottery handicrafts. I had the experience of a lifetime with my family. It was worth it.

Your idea of ... extremethings.. or w/e the link was .... is pottery and romantic gondola rides???? ... wow... sad... unless your like... basejumping from the gondola halfway through... or the pottery you put in an open kiln and turn up to way to high heat and stand over it and see if youll die when it explodes.. that sounds kinda fun... oh well...

                    re police and fire games

Formersensei - are these the games in Quebec?? I was thinking about doing that myself. I have a thai boxing background, with a bit of boxing experience, but am going to focus purely on boxing now - it's worth it for a free holiday in a part of the world I've never been to apart from anything else. I also actually enjoy the sport more than Muay Thai, which is obviously the key thing.

They have a novices section for the games so you wouldn't end up going in with some badass Cuban world champion or something, which was my initial fear. I wouldn't underestimate the technical side of boxing though - if you're only able to spar once a week I'd try and get some additional solo training in if I were you. Try and film yourself and then you can correct any areas that need improving on.

Keep me updated on how your training goes, it'll be decent motiviation for me.

Also check out www.rossboxing.com for some training tips/ideas etc.

The games are in Arizona. I think they will be in Tucson or in Mesa. I'm not sure just yet.

My training is consisting mostly of getting trained by another guy who is going to compete.

I'll be joining a boxing club once I finally move closer to Tucson around the end of this month.

                      Thanks for the encouragement.
