What a stupid fucking idea to begin with, and then wearing shoes into the ring so you can't kick? Dumbasses

The idea is to keep it boxing vs. western style muay thai (K-1). Botha is coming around after a few losses. Briggs won his first match via KO.

a bunch of has been boxers vs the top of K-1. this has about as much credibility as the kyokushin vs k-1 farce. when they get tyson, roy jones, and delahoya in there then it might get interesting.

a shadow of tysons glory days is still a fucking scary thing. the only reason he lost to that chump williams is because he tore a ligament in his knee. he was killing him up until then, and that dumb cocky SOB wants a rematch. he actually thinks it was his skill that beat tyson, not dumb luck. I am going to enjoy watching Tyson make orphans of his children.

We won't see a boxing's best vs. muay thai's best in the near future. The economics won't make sense for the boxer, who could easily earn in the millions in boxing only instead of fighting outside of boxing rules for 100-200G.

In the 90's, we've seen decent professional boxers fight pretty good thai boxers (with muay thai rules) and loose either by fight stoppage with leg kicks or knees. These were exhibition matches, though with the boxers not understanding or knowing about muay thai.

Now, we are seeing former top-professional boxers get in the ring, learn the muay thai game and apply boxing agains the muay thai fight strategy. Botha was the former IBF heavyweight champ; Briggs was in the top 10 (cruiserweight WBF?).

Botha has had a steep learning curve, because he didn't understand how to fight the thai-style fighter (got leg kicked by Abidi in their 2nd match and got head kicked by Fujiyama?). Now, he's watching videos and probably working with thai style fighters, but applying boxing. On top of that Briggs scored a KO in his first bout.

In K-1 you have 3 rounds to get the job done, so Boxers have to fight aggressively compared to 12 round bouts.

Right now, the best fights will probably be retired champion boxers vs. K-1's top fighters. I'd like to see Lennox Lewis in K-1!!!! That would ROCK!!

How about Lennox Lewis vs. Cro-Cop?

and therein lies the problem- why on earth would the best boxers in the world take a HUGE paycut for a fight that they could lose? so the only people you get are washups like botha. (1-5 so far, his one win was against someone who was recovering from a broken arm)

It won't happen until the economics of K-1 get closer to that of pro-boxing. I read that K-1 has a huge following in Japan, Korea and Europe. Its going to take the US to bring the big $$$$ into the sport, I guess.

You can call them has beens, but they still have skills. Even Botha past his prime is still a dangerous fighter.

Bringing boxing to K-1 will probably up the economics a little bit, but also improve K-1 by making them better allround fighters able to deal with heavy hand hitters and improve their boxing game.

Even in pure muay thai matches, boxing is making its impact. See Dekkers fighting style; he relies heavily on putting together good punches but can kick and knee with the best of them.

Well...Bob Sapp vs Tyson might be a show...or was all that crap just theatrics? Personally, I like Tyson, but nhb against Sapp...no chance, NEXT!

LOL. tyson would kill sapp nhb. sapps ground game is SLIGHTLY better than tysons, but he does not have the ferocity that tyson does. stand up, tyson would ko him without even trying. sapp is a sub par fighter who rides along on his roids- unfortunately he learnt the hard way that more skilled>bigger by way of sefo cleaving him a new asshole.

Since when did Tyson develope a ground game? I love Mike, but Sapp's a beast. You'd have to have an impressive arsenal of finish holds, escapes, and tricks on the ground to even keep the man from crushing you under his sheer mass. The man's an ex-line man, I bet he hits like a train, and he probably doesn't back down too easy. He's more modest than Tyson, but that doesn't make him less agressive in the ring. The only thing he has working against him is Tyson's stigma, and Tyson's legend.
Don't get me wrong...I WANT to see Tyson fight k-1 and nhb...but I don't think anyone's seen what he really has to offer as far as kicking, knees, and locks go.

Anyway...it's a mute subject until the fight.

sapp lost everything he had going for him when cro cop broke his face in. ever since that he has basically become a sissy. when he started he was a monster- bumrush in and slam the other guy until one of them stopped moving. and he was good at it. now.... he tries to fight like other normal fighters, but he cant. if he doesnt win in the first round, he usually wont win at all. and have you seen sapp in pride? he gets dominated. and he has about as much heart as the tin man. when the going gets tough, sapp either cheats or cowers in the corner crying for his mummy. tyson can beat him in a fist fight, I dont know what makes you think otherwise. sapp cant kick and he gets beaten by people with lesser boxing skills than tyson, like his brutal hiding by Sefo.

and its all a moot point because now that K-1 have thrown him to the lions and are no longer protecting him, he has realised what its like to get a foot lodged up his arse and has apparently quit K-1.

snaps...good points. But I still don't think that Tyson could go to the ground with Sapp. I guess we'll never know.
On a related note, I heard Tyson was training muay thai for a k-1 style bout...is this true, or just more bullshit? I dunno.

I would like to see him in K-1 but I honestly dont see it happening. he got 8 million for his williams fight- the winner of the k-1 GP gets I think 250,000. there is NO WAY IN HELL he is going to take a paycut that huge.
