  • I've been training for that Boxing event I told you all about earlier.

It's for the Arizona Police And Fire Games being held in April.

I love the training. I haven't felt so good in my life, even when I was training in Shaolin Goju years ago. I love the roadwork. I love the jump rope and the calisthenics, etc.

I'm in some of the best shape I've been since I left boot camp in Parris Island back in '95.

Anyway, I think after this fight, I may just have to go pro. Why not make some money doing something I might enjoy.

It surely is an addiction. Today is a perfect example.

I was training at my trainer's home. My trainer took rocks and put them in her hand just above head level. I had to get into my stance and throw punches at the rocks as they dropped attempting to catch them. Trust me, you need some serious hand speed to catch these darn rocks. I never caught them before today. I kept the six rocks that I did catch.

I was so hyped that I couldn't get over it.

Are there any Christians in here who could tell me whether or not they see some of a moral dilemna with fighting for money? I mean, the intention is to hit the person who is your opponent for no other reason than to hit him. I love this sport, but I'm afraid of its consequences in eternity.

You will definitely go to Hell.

          Definitely.

          Christ hates boxers.

          He's a big Pro-Wrestling fan, see...

If it aint NWA, it aint gettin in those pearly gates.

          Sorry.

Evander Holyfield and his camp hold prayer before each fight; no doubt he is a devote Christian as is George Foreman.

So did the crusaders, the inquisitors, the witch hunters..

Look. If you aren't VIOLATING someone's WILL, then you are doing no wrong.

If you feel bad about it, remember the golden rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

In the boxing ring, you WANT people to fight you with ferocity, because it makes you strong. If they slack on you, you are going to be weak. To call on another quote from the bible "As metal sharpens metal, so one man sharpens another".

And don't forget, Jacob "wrestled an angel".. And in their day, wrestling wasn't without pummeling and strikes.. So if the angel was willing to wrestle, why shouldn't you be?

Please, do not have moral dillema's about these things. I do not believe that is Christ's message. You know, from your own experience, that there is nothing wrong with what you are doing, you know it in your own heart. You feel GOOD when you get done..your whole being is GLOWING with BLISS from the workout.

This is the sign you are doing right, friend.

It is more useful to consult your own heart than it is to consult any document or dogma. Your own heart is where the bible tells you god lives. So consult god, in your own heart.

              That is my take.

There are more issues here than your soul... First you're on a Martial arts forum.. "of or pertaining to the god Mars"... Clearly not the Christian God of the Bible. You can count on destruction... Next the issue of fighting, violence is a detestable thing again destruction leads to destruction. then there's $$$$ the root of all sorts of evil the "all mighty dollar". (Another false god) another reason for destruction... This is my witness to you, get away from all the unclean things and you may be saved.

i dont see why u should feel ashamed if you have fighting skills, at least that is what i think this discussion boils down to...."if it makes ya feel good, do it"

Boxing has improved many kids lives'; its taken them off the street, channeled their anger and frustration and has given them a better life. Perhaps, it has even helped some people find their hidden talents.

God is certainly interested in seeing people develop their talents, despite the jealousies or admirations of fellow men.

For some, boxing is just excercise and stress management and less about learning how to fight and build fight attributes.

The last thing we need are jealous people walking around with poor stress management. Its a recipe for going postal.

                      Well said Mr.B!

"For men of understanding do not say that the sword is to blame for murder, nor wine for drunkenness, nor strength for outrage, nor courage for foolhardiness, but they lay the blame on those who make an improper use of the gifts which have been bestowed upon them by God, and punish them accordingly."

St. John Chrysostom (circa 341-410 A.D.), from "Treatise on the Priesthood,"
                      via B.T. Carlin, M.D.

                      And George Silver....

"...I commit you to the protection of the almighty Jehovah.
Yours in all love and friendly affection,
                      George Syluer" Circa 1599

I think it's good to question our path from time to time...

Thank you to everyone who answered my questions regarding this. I really enjoy this sport moreso than anything else I've done in a while.

                        Thanks again.

                          Actually FormerSensei,
if God gave you the ability to become a pro boxer, you have to wonder what moral implications lie in not utilizing your God-given abilities to their fullest potential. Give the masses some entertainment, be a roll-model, be a teacher, and do the best at everything that you can. Just never forget how lucky you are, where you came from, and what it took to get where you are.

I'm just curious, since I'm turning pro this year as well. What weight class do you box? Where are you from? I'm wondering if we might be competing sometime soon. If you're not a heavyweight, maybe we'll at least be on a card together.
I am at 190 (Cruiserweight) right now. I want to get to about 150-160 before I even THINK of fighting professionally. I live in the Tucson Area.
