hey im going to start going to a muay thai gym soon, im just waiting for the tendinitis in my right knee to die down. Well, lately ive been just hitting the heavy bag and been doing some skip rope and shadow boxing to help condition myself before i start the class. Well ive noticed that whenever i do a strong jab but i dont connect, then my elbow tends to hurt when it fully extend. Im just curious but is this natural, do any of you boxers feel pain like that? because ive noticed that in boxing matches they throw pretty hard jabs but like half of them miss, so if i was in a ring fight working the jab, my elbow would probably get pretty sore after a few misses. Do you think it could be because of uneven strength in my arm muscles?(my triceps arent very strong compared to my front deltoids) I was also thinking maybe its just that my ligaments and tendons are weak in my elbow, and maybe some specialized negative repetitions could help out. (whenever i do tricep pressups my elbows tend to hurt so i have to use very low weight, so i tend to avoid doing those exercises and just do dips) So i was hoping you guys could help me out or give me your opinion. Do not allow your elbows to lock. When you hit the bag you do not lock your elbows because you are hitting a target within your range.When you lock your elbows it is because you are aiming at nothing its like aiming at a target beyond your range (I hope that makes sence) Any way to remedy this problem aim at an imaginary opponent get well within range and aim the blow to pass completly thru the opponent but still stop short of locking out. You can also do this with weights. It will increase your speed power and control without hurting your elbows. I hope that helps It should so try it and see

thanks for the replies guys, ill start concentrating on not extending my elbow, because ive had tendinitis in my knee for like 3 monthes, and it would definitely be unpleasant if i were to get it in my elbow as well.
