  • im really struggling with my hooks can anyone help???

Hi there I have been kickboxing for about 4 months now and i can see a personal improvement in almost everything except for my hooks. I was just wondering if anybody here can help me, id appreciate any tips or advice.

i was training today and i got some help on them.... when u are getting ready to throw, turn your shoulders away slightly getting into your gaurd, and then explode with a turn of the upper body. that helped me alot, from the akward feeling of the hook.

I've been told that hook power comes from the coordination of your hip rotation, leg push-off and lat extension with the tightening of your bicep and fist at the moment of impact.

The first half of the hook and most of its power has to do with your legs and hips. If you neglect this, you're only throwing a looping punch.

ever armwrestle? There is a type of motion some pro-armwrestlers use called hooking. You turn the arm down a little bit and wrench it. When you hook, it's almost the same, only you pull in, not down....BONGGGGGGGGG. Use your toes, hips, shoulders, and wrist to really crack it.
My hooks are the heaviest hand related tools I have. Almost as nasty as my elbows. Same footwork (or placement at least) as a left elbow in Muay Thai.

Funny this is being brought up, I also was having a hell of a time with my hooks. I was doing way to much #3, but as soon after alittle intsucting, it came around. Didnt have near the rotation that i should have had. Thanks for the tips Mike.
