  • Boxers training legs?

Why do i never hear about boxers training there legs, theres jogging and skipping but not alot of squats and leg presses. Doesnt most of the power for your punch come from your legs. Should i try to jog and skip more instead of doing squats and having big legs?

At the gym i box, we first go for runs then rite after we do squats. we usually hold them half way for a long time . Squats are probably one of the best excercises to do for not only your legs but your whole body.

You should include a weight day for your legs, or some compound lifts as they too will work your legs. However, your legs are being worked in all or most aspects of boxing training. Conditioning drills (especially burpees, jump-rope, bodyweight squats in a circuit, high knees, shadow boxing, interval running, hill sprints) are all working your legs quite a bit! Skill work also targets your legs - if you're circling the heavy bag, slipping, bobbing, ducking as if you were on the defense before firing off combos, you're effectively working your leg in a really sport-specific manner as to how you'd use them (exactly how, as a matter of fact). The same can be said for the double end bag, mitt work, sparring, maize ball, etc etc

Looks to me like your legs should be fine! Remember to include regular (daily, if possible) road work, all of the afore mentioned conditioning drills (as you should be for your own sake in the ring!) and a day of compound or isolated leg exercise and you'll be fine!
