okay so im new to striking, but from what i have been taught so far, you need to pivot off the foot you punch with when it is a cross/hook. so with a cross you push off teh back foot and a hook is off the front. however, i don't know how much to pivot or exactly how to pivot to get the best punch. i want to have good technique so help a brother out. thanks

well....
on my cross I used to pivot my foot, but I also pivoted my waist noticably, which felt downright funny and stuff. I worked with it a little and tried to eliminate that, but if I pivoted my foot correctly the waist natrually turned without the funny feeling. So at my full extent my rear foot is twisted so their point almost at the toes of my lead foot. So your foot will probably bhe pointing in a little bit.
And it's kinda the same with my hook, if it's lead hand for example, my foot pivots so the toes are point inwards...at the rear foot more or less.
and it feels natrually just about right that way...twisted that much feels almost perfect.

my foot and the punch both hit their full extension at the same time.
On my hook it seems my lead hand hits slightly before the foot, mainly because the way I know em, it requires slightly more leg movement that any other leg inducing punches I got. I plant the base (rear foot) at a perfectly flat angle and it's generally a little slower to comply than my already perfectly positioned cross foot. But it seems perfectly fine to me...my hook is pretty powerful.
