I want to hang a heavy bag in the center of my garage, but the problem is that there are no exposed beams/rafters there, just a ceiling. Is a ceiling stud strong enough to hold a 70lb swinging heavy bag? I don't want to use a stand, if I could avoid it. Anyone have any advice/suggestions?

I have mine hanging from one of the roof beams in my shed. The beam doesn't really move even when the bag is swinging wildly so I'm pretty sure it's secure. I got a length of chain from Home Depot and wrapped it around the beam a dozen or so times and that's what it hangs from. When I had it up at my parents house we hung it from a big screw but eventually the screw fell out, which is why I decided to wrap it aound the beam instead.

It's strong enough for strikes but I wouldn't risk structual damage to my house by kicking a heavy bag. {{{{ I just peeped, this is the boxing forumn.}}}}} Well, many kickers lurk here in this fourmn so what the heck. Punching o.k. but don't kick. Constant kicking will probably ruin your house. Kicks are much more powerful than punches.
Bowing Out.

This is a good point and I asked my step dad about this, (who is a structural engineer) and he said it would not damage the house. Also...dont you want to snap your kicks (if you decide to kick the bag) instead of push them? One time I was using ankle weights on my arms and the eye hook snapped in half (it was a thick hook too) bringing down the bag. I realized that it did this because with ankle weights on, I was pushing my punches not snapping them. Also, it goes to show that the hook will break before the beam.

a heavier bag
hey guys, any idea how i could make add 10 or 20 lbs to my bag without buying new ones? my current bag is only 60lb, i punch and kick at it and verykick i throw the thing flies back and hits the shelf, its easy to hurt myshin, ankle with the kicks cause the bag's so close to the wall, so i want it to be heavy and steady.
any advice is appreciated
regards & thanks. Ryan

To Avoid Structural Damage
One product that I would suggest investing in is a Heavy Bag / Speed Bag Platfrom. [Click here to view the product]
