I've studied Tae Kwon do, a couple styles of karate, Jukaido, chinese kickboxing and boxing. A standard Tae Kwon Do practitioner usually don't have the knowledge to develop the hand techniques to get them more like a boxer or full contact kickboxer. Most Tae Kwon Do and Karate guys train and learn the specific hand techniques which include striking and blocking that would be allright for point tournaments, but when it goes to a full contact fight, they'd get the butts stomped. So it's not just the striking techniques you would need to learn, but also the blocking as well. Then you get into block and counters. You get into your full contact blocking techniques, you use more palm blocks, perries, shoulder blocks, ducks and slipps. And the striking techniques will very for up close fighting. One thing I try and drill into my students, that anytime you do a kick, once that foot dropps, you role up some sort of hand combo.
But, if your into buying books. I also wrote a book that has some descant drills you can do.
