  • Tyson at the Alladin

Last week (or so) I dropped in to watch Mike "train" at the Alladin. They had a full sized ring set up, a heavy bag and a speed bag. It was free to watch though Id pay to see Mike anyday. Mike is being "trained" by Jeff fennick (who beat Azumah Nelson years ago when Azumah had the flu). Apparently Mike is going on a tour of Aulstrailia doing some exhibition fights, but nothing that would bring him out of retirement. He is done boxing for sure. No questions about it. He did however get in the ring and throw some flurries and strong left hooks that had the crowd cheering, as Fennick held the gloves up for mike to hit. There was no sparring for mike. But before Mike showed up to train they had some up and coming Mexican boxers who were Pros do some 4 round sparring matches. They were impressive. Afterwards, Mike hung around signing autographs and taking pictures with people. He answered questions from the crowd at one point too.
I always liked Tyson, too bad hes been reduced to this, though he needs cash and its not uncommon looking back at history to see ex-champs doing this sort of stuff. He still draws a crowd. At one point, he was the greatest ever, period. Someone asked him how he would have done against the greatest fighters of all time, mike said he didnt know but did know that they'd know they were in a fight after it was over. Along those lines how great would have Mike been had he been fighting the best fighters of any era, Foreman, Ali, Liston, think how great Mike would have been facing that kind of competition before you spout off about he didnt beat anyone great.

Will he ever fight in K-1?

I would love to watch him against Fujiyama or Abidi. Then see him against Le Banner or Hoost.

You know, I'd feel sorry for the guy except that he brought it on himself.

Mike was mismanaged after his original trainer died.

I just read in the paper this morning that Mike Tyson recently said boxing has left him with a bad taste in his mouth... Now that is funny, except, probably, to Evander Holyfield.

yeah - his original trainer was his own adopted father.

Remember, Mike Tyson was managed/trained at first, from amateur through the early years of his professional career, by Cus d'Amato. then, after Cus died, he was managed/trained by Kevin Rooney, who, I think, also grew up in the d'Amato extended family at the same time as Mike. Then, for who knows what reasons, he went with Don King, I believe. He started getting worse shortly thereafter. If you saw the fight in Tokyo against Buster Douglas, you will have noticed, like I did, that Tyson arrived in the ring dry, not having broken a sweat. The rest, like they say, was all downhill. I may have some specifics wrong here, but I think I got the general idea correct...lol He's been a joke so long it is hard for me to remember. But he truly was great for a while.

                  You think?

D'Amato or Rooney would have never done Tyson wrong - that's character + trust.

It could have been for a number of additional reasons: promised fame, riches, bad management and irresponsibility.

How can you have sympathy for someone who squandered over 300 million dollars?

you give a 20 year old kid from the ghetto who is emotionally disturbed 300 million and you expect him to know what to do with it? to make it worse, people took advantage of him greatly. no wonder he just got worse and worse and ended up homeless at one point.

All he had to do was invest a tiny fraction of the cash in something relatively safe; he'd have been able to live in luxury off of the interest for the rest of his life. It's not that difficult, all you have to do is walk into any bank, or contact any reputable brokerage firm and ask for advice.

Have you ever heard of Accountants, Financial Planners and Attorneys? People---don't invest in cars or race horses they lose their value when they leave the show room.

well look how nuts tyson was. he obviously didnt know how to manage his money so im assuming that he had other people handling his money. and those people no doubt took advantage of him and didnt inform him on how much cash he was spending and before he knew it he was in debt. mike tyson could hardly keep himself together during a fight or interview, theres now way he gonna be able to manage 300 million lol. its sad that his so called "friends" and managers just took his money; you think any of them stuck around when all his cash was gone and he was living on the street? i doubt it.
