I started taking BJJ and boxing lessons 3 months ago. I go to BJJ twice a week and boxing once a week. I can really see the progress in BJJ but the progress in boxing is really slow. My instructor says im getting better and I know im getting a little better but im getting frustrated with the results. Honestly, I find boxing difficult....its so technical and precise. I want to keep at it, because I want to learn how to box but the progress is starting to frustrate me. Did anyone else feel this way when they started boxing?

I started boxing..and felt the same way you feel.....i quit after just a month!! and i didnt come back until a year passed and here i am today getting down the basics...i've been going for about a month and i have no intentions of quitting. I've been thinking of doing BJJ/Boxing at the same time..but....i think ill just stick to boxing just to make it my base, gotta perfect my standup THEN move onto groundwork....as for you...it does take time...spar more and learn from your mistakes you'll get there..i go 4 times a week....so i can see why you're not progressing as much....dont you think you could add in 1 day too even it up? 2x BJJ 2x Boxing...you dont become perfect at boxing overnight...its gonna take a longggg time to see results...train hard!

Thanks for the reply and I think you are right about going boxing 2x a week. I will try to even it out with BJJ. It is obvious to me that BJJ is going to be my primary fighting style, but I want to have the stand up skills if necessary. After I get the basics of boxing down pretty well I will try to incorporate muay thai kics, knees and elbows as well.

your not going to be able to just 'incorporate muay thai kics, knees and elbows'. Fighting just with the hands is a completely different style. If you want to incorporate it into your game your going to have to take some kind of stand up MA that has kicks knees and elbows already in it - like muay thai.

I know there are MMA fighters who were primarily boxers but incorporated kicks, knees and elbows to their arsenal. I plan on learning these kicks, knees and elbows from taking muay thai classes obviously.

How can you not incorporate the fundamentals of Muay Thai into your arsenal?...isnt that what LEARNINGS all about?.....if im learning boxing and i plan to take muay thai your tellin me im not going to be able to learn it? and besides he said hes going to take it once his standup is top notch in boxing..

            As for the Thread Starter,

Too bad your gym isnt Boxing/Kickboxing...mine is....so basically i already have knowledge about kicking......But as for you ..im guessing you only have boxing, i'd say stick with boxing for about 6 months to a year and when you feel comfortable with your standup....find the closest Muay Thai gym or American Kickboxing Gym (make sure it isnt a shitty gym)..I take American Kickboxing...(i know most of you think it isnt the best) but hey...its what my gym offers ...later on though i plan on taking Muay Thai like you...

Actually my gym has muay thai as well but right now i'm taking BJJ and Boxing, i dont think I have the time to train in MT. But definitely once I get solid at boxing I will start taking some of the MT classes.
