    True.
I guess he could always put on a lot of weight, grow taller and fight heavyweight eh?
    Excuse me?
    Listen sunshine.
You don't know zip about Calzaghe, which was obvious to me from your second post on here, where you admitted you didn't know about his hand troubles.
Like many of your posts on here. you just waffle away, never really saying anything noteworthy.
    You're just blathering here.
    More blather.
    That's ignorant blather.
I don't know why Mike seems top think you know anything about boxing, because you clearly do not have a clue.
Of course you don't know why he thinks so, because the only thing you've been able to discuss about boxing so far is Calzaghe. And if that's the extent of your knowledge, then this all makes sense.

I didn't say he wasn't shit. I said what I said. And obviously you couldn't discuss what I said, and that's why you had no choice but to take my words out of context.

Calzaghe didn't have to grow inches taller to fight a light heavyweight, or lose much weight to fight a middleweight. So what you're saying makes no sense as usual. Its not uncommon for boxers to fight in different divisions, moving up or down in weight. But you seem to think what I suggested is unreasonable based solely on your opinions.

I'm not sitting here pretending to be a Calzaghe expert or even a fan. But I do know his record and what he's done. Like you said, tale of the tape says it all. Obviously I hurt your feelings, but I'm not emotionally invested into this exchange to have to argue with you. I like Calzaghe. He's one of the few Euro fighters who has made something out of his career. But I don't follow euro fighters most of the time, as their fights are boring. The euro-style of boxing is boring, but Calzaghe has a bit of rhythm and movement to him unlike the others.

But if you're still feeling mouthy after this post, we could always make a wager. If Calzaghe fights Hopkins, Taylor or Wright we can bet on the winner. We already know who you'll bet on! We can set up a paypal account and put the money in there controlled by say ... Mike Brewer? Then the winner takes all. I'll put my money where my mouth is. What kind of man are you?

    We'll see who knows what.

Staying in a division that's dead and devoid of talent does nothing for one's career.
    True.
I guess he could always put on a lot of weight, grow taller and fight heavyweight eh?

Its very much the case for Calzaghe, and most others(excluding you) know that.

Calzaghe was one of the mouths talking trash like he'd want to fight Roy Jones when Jones was still on top. He's said he wants to fight Hopkins. He's said he wants to fight Taylor. At what point has Calzaghe ever made a move to pursue matches with these men in the past?
    You're just blathering here.

He's making that move now, which goes to illustrate the fact that he knows he needs to do more for his legacy.
    More blather.

As far as the tale of the tape, it won't mean a thing if you're career was more padded than a flat chested broad's bra. If all you've ever done is remain in a place that isn't known for producing great boxers, then you'll be known as beating what was available.

Let him show and prove how good or great he is in the ring against men who have had to do the same.
    That's ignorant blather.

    Not to me.

And no, I meant regarded by the WORLD as a champion, not just Wales. That's why its called World Champion. If you're only willing to fight in your own small neck of the woods, and avoid any real challenges, then you become obscure and your efforts will go largely unappreciated, and rightfully so.
As you know, that's never been the case with Calzaghe.

But how he would do against other elite fighters ... I'm not so sure, and neither are you. At this point, its speculation.
    Not to me.

why should he have to leave his hometown.. he is the champ! when u say dont get recogntion do u mean across the world or in america? americans seem to think if they dont get recognition there they aint any good... bollucks! the high point in his career was beating lacey... a dont think so! a thought his fight against the other american bryon mitchell was better for a start. and the only reason fighters go to america is for money... its the only place were average fighters get paided obscene amounts! and what else can the guy do.... the two current world champs at his weight just now wont fight him.. kessler and taylor both shit it! if taylor turns down the newest offer for september than he is just runnin scared of joe! he cant get the fights thats the probs!

and ok a uppose what does what i say matter... but like a said sugar ray said after the fight.. the guys the best there is just now and could have easily competed in my day and been one of the best!

oh and the pinnacle of his career.. equalling the record number of defenses and should break it, being undefeated, being the longest reigning champ, making everyone he fights look like a bum that they are considered no good after it e.g lacey... hmmm guy has done nothing right enough!
Uhhh ... that wasn't the easiest post to read, but I think I got what you meant. Fact is, Calzaghe is a fine fighter. I hope the best for him. However he won't be in any boxing Hall of Fame. And no, I meant regarded by the WORLD as a champion, not just Wales. That's why its called World Champion. If you're only willing to fight in your own small neck of the woods, and avoid any real challenges, then you become obscure and your efforts will go largely unappreciated, and rightfully so.

I think Joe Calzaghe could beat a lot of different fighter just based on what I've seen of him against Lacey and Manfredo. But how he would do against other elite fighters ... I'm not so sure, and neither are you. At this point, its speculation.

And by the way, people were asking questions about Lacy more than 2 years before he even signed to fight Calzaghe. You obviously don't watch any other boxing except for Euro boxing. Lacy had struggled to fight much lesser men than Calzaghe on a number of occasions, winning in tough fights that were supposed to be virtual sparring sessions.

So, say what you will. You're entitled to your opinion. But the fact remains that Calzaghe hasn't done enough to deserve global recognition because he only fights virtual unknowns. Lacy was a big name only, not a big talent. If Calzaghe does to Bernard Hopkins, Jermain Taylor or Winky Wright what he did to Lacy, then not only will I give him recognition, but the world will as well.

I forgot to mention they're sensitive too.
In Scotland, we call them 'Sassenachs', which means 'of Saxon descent'.
It's their mongrel blood that makes them so sensitive.

At one time in fair England, it was deemed acceptable to have a sign outside a venue saying "No Dogs, Negroes or Irish".

    That's the English for you.

The English might be perhaps, but not Scots like myself.

Calzaghe (despite the Italian sounding surname) is Welsh.

Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the odd part of England are populated by 'Celtic' people.
Please don't lump us in with the boorish/Imperialistic English.

Joe does what he does 'in the ring'

He's got some proving to do and a ways to go before earning the accolades you gave him.

Calzaghe would have gotten plenty of recognition if he would have left his hometown to fight bigger names and better fighters. This has been his curse for years, just like it was for Dariusz Michalczewski. Why do you think the Klitschko brothers both came to America? They knew that they wouldn't leave much of a legacy staying in Europe in this day and age.

I'm not taking anything away from Joe. I think he's a good fighter. However, the high point of his career was beating Jeff Lacy, which commentators and fans alike have been questioning way before he fought Calzaghe. I applaud the way Joe took apart Lacy, but if that's going to be the pinnacle of his career then he's no greatest of anything.

He's got some proving to do and a ways to go before earning the accolades you gave him.
