  • Winky Wright vs Bernard Hopkins

This fight doesn't seem like its going to be a exciting slugfest either. Both men have defensive boxing styles and both are excellent counterpunchers. They are two of the best in the business, but I can't see this match being any more exciting than the last mega bout, Mayweather vs DelaHoya. I forsee it being another chess match that only astute boxing fans really appreciate.

Still, I'm going to pick Wright. Not because I don't think that Hopkins can beat him, but because I see Wright as the hungrier fighter with more to prove. Hopkins has the ability to make almost any fighter look bad, but most of those fighters came in to bring the fight to Hopkins, who masterfully countered them and triumphed. When we saw him fight Hakkar, who ran for the majority of the match, Hopkins looked bad for the first time in years. Not because Hakkar accomplished anything, but because Hopkins couldn't do a thing despite being the superior fighter.

Wright is just as patient as Hopkins, and younger. He's never come in looking out of shape, and in his fight against Taylor he's showed that he can be just as offensive with the heavy hitters. Hopkins may have schooled Tarver in impressive fashion, but Father Time will be knocking soon. Its just a matter of when.

    Wright by SD.

I'll take Hopkins because he is immortal, been to prison (where the fights are real and not for money but for honor and survival), philadelphia street fighter, frugal with his money and just plain disciplined. I think Wright is too defensive minded to beat Hop.

The fight is July 27th, 2007.

Wright didn't seem too defensive minded in his fight against Taylor or Trinidad.

        Time will tell though, brother.

Yea, that was a change of tactics in Mid Career. Offensively Wright never showed me much more than a Jab and a straight right. He will need much more than that against Hop.

I love Winky...def one of my favorite boxers out there....such a master Technician.....it's great that he's finally gotten his due over the past few years,he was ignored like he didn't exist because he is such a bad style match up for anyone.I agree with what Uke said that this is going to be a chess match and i also pick Winky but imgonna take it by UD.
