I gotta say watching MW keeps me motivated, sparring him boxing, hands only ,even more (as I always end up getting kicked in the balls)

Anyway sod the lycra shorts, what about those leather ones with the cheeks cut out that you've got mate.......

Hey, if you want to start a lovefest D, then I'm on for that!

Standing in your corner watching you fight guys ten years younger than you, never backing down an inch, giving it 110% win lose or draw - that motivates me.

I think what I was trying to say in my post before was I want to surround myself with people who can kick my arse instead of kiss my arse, and you are right up there.

I still can't believe you broke my left cheekbone, and people say high kicks don't work. Hang on, wasn't it meant to be hands only??....

I think we had forgotten it was hands only at that point.....lol........It's like grappling with Martin I just can't help getting the odd sly dig in............

I have to agree with training against those that make life difficult for you, it's the best learning tool, when I first started with DK at carlsons, he would tap me at will, approx once every 8 seconds but over the weeks it changed to once every 20, then 30, then 40 and so on.....that really motivated me.

The only thing I would say is I never made it to getting him to tap before he moved but I did start making others guy's tap, that I had no right to really.

        Anyway, gotta do some work..........

I think its good to train with those that are better than you but i think its important to train with those that are worse.

The problem with training with people that are better than you is that you become overly hesitant and you dont get a true appreciation of what you can and cant do.

Its not a fair assessment of your own ability. I say all this because i was told by my instructor specifically to start sparring with people that i was better than because i was undervaluing my own ability and then when i did make the change to sparring with those that werent so good i was holding back. I was expecting things that werent coming. So what did that do for me, it meant i was missing out and not fighting to the best of my ability. Those are some pretty serious consequences.

Overall you have to spar and train with a variety. not one or the other imo.

I know exactly what you mean ghost, went though a stage like that myself until I got caught with a ringing shot off a mate and so I booted him in the head and bashed him for the rest of the round, It was this that made me realise that I have to spar/fight my game and not lower (for want of a better word) my game to theirs and to learn from/raise my game against those better than me.

What I was trying to put across, was, that with DK he could and all the others could pretty much make me tap at will and though I never made him tap, I started to take longer to get tapped by DK and the others were not getting me to tap and over time I started to make them tap. And considering they were training BJJ, sub wrestling for 6-10 hours a week, mine was about an hour a week (I like hitting people ) I got a lot from that hour.

When I started I came from a stand up and olympic wrestling background, pretty much no subs at all and found that they only came into play when doing no strike grappling/sub wrestling, when I could hit/kick/elbow/knee on the floor it took the subs outta the game to a good extent. I still got caught in them but no-where near as much as when I couldn't strike on the floor.

Back to the motivation mode, I am putting together, at the moment, all my favourite fights from K1, MMA, Boxing, Muay Thai, training clips, sparring sessions etc, and then fav endings to fights that weren't quite barnstormers but were top finishes whether by sub or knockout, even some film clips all to a banging sound track, stick on dvd and play it while I'm on the Bike at home or the Bag and just go hell for leather......Every time a round ends you got guy's going at it on the tv and it just gets me up for the next round....bloody marvelous.
